Everyone seems to be on these social-networking sites, but not me...just does not appeal. Anyone else not interested in them?

Me, MY DH and kids do. I am just not interested in meeting up with friends from the past or updating my life on a daily basis.

No interest here either.. I keep in contact with many, many people via the mail (yes - the old-fashioned postal system - LOL) and I love it! I love writing and receiving long, long letters on beautiful paper (I design my own on my computer) and nothing makes the ever present "bills" in my mail box more bearable than finding two or three long, chatty letters mixed in with them every day..:goodvibes

You are not alone - I don't belong to any of those sites either.

Unfortunately, since friends and family belong - the world knows my business anyway. Thirty minutes after getting laid off (hadn't told anybody yet), I received two calls from friends offering their support :confused3. It seems that one of my co-workers (also laid off) posted our situations on her FB account and some mutual friends saw it.

Oh well, so much for keeping anything private nowadays ;)

Ain't that the Truth! :rotfl2:
And then what's better yet, is that they can post pics of you for the world to see without your even knowing either. :scared1:

I also belong to none of the above mentioned sites nor do I have a blog. And it will be a cold day in you-know-where before I do.

I do all except Twitter because I think in the long run Facebook will suck up Twitter. I think it is important to stay up to date on all technology, social or otherwise to stay up to date and relevant.

I love MySpace, dislike Facebook, and detest Twitter.

It's quite possible to stay up to date on all technology without actually "engaging" in it.. Were that not possible, I know quite a few people who would still be back in the dark ages..;)

As a previous pp mentioned here, the "good" side of this technology also has a "bad" side - yet another reason that some people choose not to engage in these types of technology..:)

I do not participate in any of those social sites nor do I ever plan to. I do have access to my teen DD's FB so I can make sure nothing inappropriate is happening.

Here is what I find from watching her FB account:

The teens post one of three things:
1. I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bored. I have the most boring life. Someone friend me because I am sooooooo bored.

2. My life sucks. School is so hard, boring. long, etc. My job is the worst. My parents suck.

3. I am with my BFF and we are having the time of our life watching a movie. BFF and I are going for ice cream now. We are having such a great time. BFF and I are heading to the mall now. Can't wait. It will be so much fun.

#1 & #2 are typical teen things but #3 bugs me the most. If you are having so much fun, why do you need to stop what you are doing just so you can tell everyone about it? I have never, ever been at a friend's house and felt the need post about all the fun I am having in the middle of our visit. I also wouldn't run to the Dis and post about it. I just don't get it.

As for the adults, it seems like one continuous horrible Christmas brag letter.
"My kids are perfect, my spouse is wonderful. My life couldn't possibly be any better."

The problem is, I know these people and they call me and complain about their life! :rotfl:

I just don't get the point. I know many people say it is a way to keep in touch but I don't want classmates from 25 years ago to see certain pictures or know that we are headed on vacation or that I want to smack my kids upside the head. :rotfl2: I reserve those things for special people!

Count me in as well. As long as I get to keep my computer and have internet access that is all that matter to me.

Nope..not me. I'm just not that interesting.

Neither my husband nor I have any interest in any of those social networking sites. I'm happy with the DISboards and one other forum and plain old email ... if I haven't kept in touch with someone from grade school or high school there's probably a reason for it.

I just joined facebook a couple of weeks ago because I have several friends and family that were bugging me to death to join. I do not even have a picture on my wall, don't plan on putting one up either, and I tried to make it as private as possible, mostly did it to keep track of my daughters friends and what they were doing. I don't post, nor do I take the millions of quizzes I's sent. I have had several long lost friends find me though.

I don't either. Don't want to tell the world what's going on in my life, don't want to be found by long lost friends, don't want to know what Rpatz is up to this minute of this day (really!)

My DH belongs to facebook though, and seems to get a kick out of it.

another one here not on any social networking site/page/whatever

like the above poster, not interested in finding lost friends/classmates, and i've got TMZ for my celebrity gossip

here at the DIS is as social as i get ;)

I am on Facebook only because my kids are on it and it seems to be the only way to keep up with what they are doing.

I know we sent very few graduation announcements out, but because of facebook, we had a huge crowd at his open house.

I did make plans with my maid of honor because of facebook. We had lost touch when she moved to California years ago and we met for lunch when she was in town last month. It was nice to see her.

I don't do all the quizzes and smiles and those things.

Nope, don't have any of the above... neither does DH. There are many people I don't care about keeping track of or seeing what they have to say, including those I went to school with! I didn't really like them then so I probably won't like them any better now.;)

DS19 and DD18 have FB and MS. DS doesn't show his but I see it anyway.... DD is his friend and she just can't keep a secret!! :rotfl2: Every night, we go on there and check out what her friends have put out there. She loves to show me their pictures!!
