Looking for a vehicle to trde our Tahoe in on. We LOVE the Tahoe, except that visits to the gas station are starting to take a toll on the pocket book. Looked at the Freestyle. Seems nice, what do you think?
Thanks!!!!
We own a 2006 Freestyle Limited FWD w/ bench seat (7 passenger) since Labor day 2005. Around town we usually get 22-23 mpg and highway around 27-28mpg. I have found that cruising at 65-70 yields the best mileage, as if you push it past that the mileage starts to decrease (Here in NC several of the Interstates speed limit is 70 mph). Typically I have the cars tires around 35 +/- 1 lb. This is semi loaded down with myself, my wife, twin 4 year old girls, and our 18 month son (hence the need for the vehicle).
We were going to get an Odyssey or Sienna because there was no other choice for a 7 or 8 seater at the time with 3 row head curtain air bags (our requirement) until the Freestyle came out. We got the bench so when the kids ger older they can sit side by side on a trip, and/or we can comfortably take the grandparents in teh car when they/we visit.
Some other information is that both the Freestyle and the Five Hundred (the sedan version) are built on the same chassis as the Volvo XC 90 and S80 as Ford owns Volvo. Similarly the safety technology transfers from that platform as well. Also the transmission is a CVT ( tried and true technology, this was developed between Ford and ZF) mated to a 3.0L V-6, do not believe the reviews that it is underpowered, we have travelled extensively on mountain roads with steep grades and power is NOT a problem. For more info see
www.myfordfreestyle.com . This car is a sleeper that you would more than be delighted with.
We love, love, love the car.
Oh, an AWD version is available (and somewhat pushed by salesman). We chose a FWD w/ traction control because 90% of our driving is in NC where snow is rare and if it does snow, only stupid people drive in it (and I have a 15 year old manual transmission FWD VW Jetta to use).
Good luck.
