Looking for a vehicle to trde our Tahoe in on. We LOVE the Tahoe, except that visits to the gas station are starting to take a toll on the pocket book. Looked at the Freestyle. Seems nice, what do you think?

Thanks!!!!

We've had our freestyle for about 8 months now and love it. We got an insanely good deal on a top of the line, loaded model. It gets about 20mpg in the city and about 25mpg on the highway. We've used it to go the 9 hours to Disney World and it is SO comfortable. We've also used it to move and there is a TON of space in it.

We own a 2006 Freestyle Limited FWD w/ bench seat (7 passenger) since Labor day 2005. Around town we usually get 22-23 mpg and highway around 27-28mpg. I have found that cruising at 65-70 yields the best mileage, as if you push it past that the mileage starts to decrease (Here in NC several of the Interstates speed limit is 70 mph). Typically I have the cars tires around 35 +/- 1 lb. This is semi loaded down with myself, my wife, twin 4 year old girls, and our 18 month son (hence the need for the vehicle).

We were going to get an Odyssey or Sienna because there was no other choice for a 7 or 8 seater at the time with 3 row head curtain air bags (our requirement) until the Freestyle came out. We got the bench so when the kids ger older they can sit side by side on a trip, and/or we can comfortably take the grandparents in teh car when they/we visit.

Some other information is that both the Freestyle and the Five Hundred (the sedan version) are built on the same chassis as the Volvo XC 90 and S80 as Ford owns Volvo. Similarly the safety technology transfers from that platform as well. Also the transmission is a CVT ( tried and true technology, this was developed between Ford and ZF) mated to a 3.0L V-6, do not believe the reviews that it is underpowered, we have travelled extensively on mountain roads with steep grades and power is NOT a problem. For more info see www.myfordfreestyle.com . This car is a sleeper that you would more than be delighted with.

We love, love, love the car.

Oh, an AWD version is available (and somewhat pushed by salesman). We chose a FWD w/ traction control because 90% of our driving is in NC where snow is rare and if it does snow, only stupid people drive in it (and I have a 15 year old manual transmission FWD VW Jetta to use).

Good luck.

We have a Freestyle that we bought in April 2005. We love ours as well. We had some problems at 1st, but I think that was b/c ours was one of the 1st models out and it took them a little while to fix it b/c the Ford people were still getting trained on them. Just make sure your dealership has technechans (sp) knowlegeable about them. We haven't had any problems since then.

We like the 3rd row seats. Great for taking the parents w/ us or when we take the kids friends w/ us. (We have the bench seats.) The gas milage is o.k. DH drives it, so I don't know any specifics about it, but I know he goes all around town and doesn't seem to be getting gas constantly.

We have driven it to Myrtle Beach (6 hours) and DC (4 hours). The MB trip last year included driving to MB on a Saturday, driving around the beach daily, driving to Va Beach (about 8 hours) on Friday of that week and then driving from VB to home on Sunday (5 hours). It did fine on that trip. We had plenty of room w/ all the beach stuff in there. DH coached DS's t-ball team this year and we still had room to carry the T and all the equipment the kids had even w/ the 3rd row up. (DD was playing softball as well)

We have the AWD and traction control b/c we need it where we live. The car did fine in the snow this past winter, but I will say we didn't have it out in extremly bad conditions.

I will be getting this car in about a year, b/c DH wants a Mitsubishi Endeavor and we will keeping my old car for DD when she starts to drive. I can't wait to get it!!

Good luck, I think you will be very happy w/ the Freestyle! :sunny:

Thanks to everyone for the input. We have decided to purchase the freestyle. I cannot wait. BUT I will miss our Tahoe.
