I have been having some stomach troubles since my Dad died. My doctor thinks it's all stress related and gave me this to sort of help my nerves but she thinks it should calm my tummy down too.

Anyone know anything about it?

I took Buspar myself a few years ago after some major stress started affecting my life. I was on a low dose, the lowest you can get. I didn't experience any side effects, but it did help alot. I was only on it for about two months and then got pregnant so I stopped right away. I have been going through some major stress again recently and thought about trying it again. I just hate the thought of having to take something every day.
When my mom was diagnosed with cancer (incurable), I was a basket case. My doctor gave me Xanax for that because my anxiety over it would come and go....or I should say get worse on some days. I found the xanax to help alot and I know many people may be against xanax....but I found it to be very helpful for a situation that I was going through at the time. Again, mine was a low dose of this as well.
Whatever you do, I hope it helps. The best thing to help you heal will be time. I never thought I'd feel better about losing my mom, but I do. Life goes on. Let memories sustain you and help you heal too, nothing can ever take memories from you. :grouphug:

Thank you so much, Loretta, for your kind words.

I am on the lowest dose of Buspar, also. May I ask how long it took to work? I have only been on it a week so far but it's 3 times a day. Just waiting to see when it will kick in. :)

It took about two full weeks before I started to feel better. Do you have people close to you to talk to about this? I have 3 sisters and at the time I had a close boyfriend and some friends who I really leaned on. Of course being that my sisters went through exactly what I did they were easier to talk to because they understood. Getting it out and talking about it, even if its over and over, I found helped.

dh is on this (in addition to effexor xr daily and ativan when needed). it took a few weeks for him to see a difference. you need to have your liver functions monitored while on it because it can cause some problems, and you absolutly cannot stop it "cold turkey" even if you have yet to feel the effects.

if you are having stomach distress call your pharmacist and ask what types of otc treatments you can use (some anti anxiety meds can't be used in conjuction with run of the mill otc antacids).

dh has found it to be an effective meds, and he has'nt had any negative side effects (unlike effexor and paxil and the like which can realy mess with your metabolism and sleep cycles).

it's only meant to be used short term-usualy if an intense anxiety inducing situation is happening in your life or if you are in the process of addressing a problem through counseling.

best of luck to you!

Ok, so I need to give it some time to really work. I knew that but it helps hearing it from someone who was on it. Yes, I have a good support group here but it's not the same as having him here. I do know that with time we will heal and it's only been one month tomorrow so we have a ways to go yet.

Thank you again.
