Anyone not sleep in there room for a night or two

I am doing this for two nights at the Swan while staying at POR for upcoming trip, and I was crucified on here when I mentioned it. for WASTING a hotel room that some other poor guest could be using.
But there is no reason it should be any problem as far as Disney is concerned. If you really care you can call Housekeeping and tell them you don't want housekeeping service for those days.

The difference being that you were planning to book at 2 Disney resorts, and that Disney CAN cancel one of your ressies if they see you are double booked. Disney does not care if you pay for one of their rooms and a room elsewhere. They care if you are staying in one of their rooms and potentialy keeping someone else out of another one of their rooms. There is a difference!

We've done this before. It's fine. We put out the Do Not Disturb sign on the room we aren't using. The maid's happy -- one less room to clean. She did leave a bag with towels and soap on the door.

No one does bed checks!! Good thing since, no doubt, plenty of people don't occupy the rooms to which they were assigned (for whatever reason!!!)

If you're on the dining plan or free dining and want to stay at Universal for a day, it makes perfect sense to me.

Im confused...why not just go to Universal for one night at the beginning or end of your trip?

we can't do it at the begining because we are checking on the last possible day of free dining and besides we want to break up disney with a few days in the middle.

Why would disney care if I book two rooms at 2 different resorts for the same time period?? They're are getting paid for both rooms??

OP we did exactly what you're planning about a month ago. Spent 21 nights at POFQ and 2 nights in the middle at the Hard Rock. We wanted to go to Halloween horror nights so it had to be in the middle of our stay. We just took a rucksack with us and left our cases in the room. We didn't even put the Do not disturb sign on and it was fine.

I Have one room at POR and I have a room for Two of the same nights at the Swan, booked directly with the Swan. So no they are not going to cancel either one, and they do not care if I am staying in the room or not as long as it is paid for.
It is not like I am holding two reservations and then planning to cancel one.
And as I stated in my other thread it is for medical convenience reasons.

There is NO difference from my perspective. They are also in two different names by the way. Not that it should matter.

Here we go again! Say I book 3 rooms and I pay for ALL the rooms under 1 name at the same time. I PAID for the rooms, DW is getting their $$$ for each room regardless of where I sleep.

How is this wrong? Someone explain to me how it's wrong to book any # of rooms but only use 1?

With dining, if you make 2 ressies, you can clearly only eat dinner at 1 place so they are only getting ONE bill paid regardless of how many ressies you make. IF, and this is a BIG IF, IF a family wanted to book 2 dinner ressies, and planned to PAY (could pay) Narcoossees $100 per person, along with LeCellier $75 per person then it wouldn't be wrong. They could go to LeCellier, eat their meal and then pay Narcoossees $200 for their trouble since they "double booked".

The point I am making is that it is not wrong to PAY for something and not use it. It is wrong to "hold" something and NOT pay for it.

We are going up for SSW on Nov. 9 and staying until the 12th. My daughter lives in Orlando. We have booked AKL for 3 nights. If we're tired and don't want to drive back to her home, we will stay at the Lodge. Probably all 3 nights. We have the option of staying there or not. All 3 nights are paid for. Disney doesn't care if we are there or not. They got their money.:confused3

I have to agree with this. If you pay for the room and choose not to use it, that's your business. If you were able to reserve the room so no one else could book it, not use it, and not pay either, that would be wrong (and is technically what the double ADR bookers are doing). That's why there is a cc required for room reservations (and why my personal belief is that one day ADR's will all require a cc as well, but we'll have to see if I'm right on that one ;) ).

I can tell you that one trip several years ago, I caught the fever and chills flu. I had my Privacy Please sign out all day. They left me alone that day, but the next day, they did check the room to see if there was a problem. So the sign won't keep them out of the room. For that reason, I wouldn't leave any valuables in the room if you leave for a day or two.

I was just trying to point out that in Disney's eyes there is a difference. Disney has a problem with people who double book resorts in hopes of getting a code or an AP rate, and then cancelling one of them. That is why I stated they MAY cancel your reservation if they see you are double booked. If you book 3 rooms at one resort, Disney assumes that you are using them, because it is obvious that you are NOT playing the "let's see which one I really want" game. And yes, if you book under different names, there is no way they will cancel your reservation.

I wasn't critizing, I was just trying to make the point that you are risking your reservations if you double book at different Disney resorts.

Geeze, some of you people take offence so easy!

Are you serious? You paid for the room, so why should anyone care. People are funny.

when i made the 'redundant' reservation i pointed it out to the reservation person, saying that we would be staying at both places at the same time..

she didn't have a problem with it....

So to break things up, you are going to pay for 2 hotel rooms on the same night? Seems like a pricey option, but to each his own =)

And yet there have been posts from others who Disney actually called and told them they had to choose between 2 different resorts, or 1 would be cancelled without their approval. Just another example of Disney being inconsistent when it comes to making rules and then enforcing them. So much seems to depend on what mood the CM is in lately.

Again, I'm not saying what you did was wrong. I just wanted others to be aware of what might happen, depending on who looks at their reservation.

I'm just a little confused as to how Disney can do this. If you have paid the deposit for both rooms how can they make you choose which one you want...it doesn't make sense to me. I can see that happening if they didn't take one nights deposit but as long as your paying why do they care?

My wife's grandmother lives in Seabring. Occasionally on a trip, we'll head up there for dinner and usually end up spending the night in her guest house....it's not necessarily planned, but once we get chatting, etc...it's late by the time we're done and we (and/or the kids) are better off just crashing there.

Our hotel room remains empty that night...

And no one from the hotel has ever said "boo" about it.

we figure the price of the room ( POP ) is somewhere around 90.00

We are willing to pay that to keep from checking out and loosing the free dining for the rest of the trip. If we were there during the entire dates of free dining we would check out and then back in, but since we are checking in on the last date and are able to get it for the whole 9 nights we are ok with paying the 90.00.

Dear Lord! That is the most contrived plan I've ever heard of. I'm not knocking it, just can't believe I actually read all the trouble you went to for a few advantages. I thought the shortcuts I took were bad.

it actually took me about ten seconds to come up w/the plan as we had first looked into getting FOTL passes that you buy and learned that they were $50/person and for four people that was more than a $150 hotel room w/unlimited FOTL passes!

we had already planned on the rental car, arriving at opening, staying 'til closing and visiting my aunt the next day... so it worked!

we've done it too.....but only for 1 night...you get 2 days of FOTL booking one night. We loved RPR, highly recommend it. You do have to pay a parking fee per day at the Loews resorts, but seriously, not an issue when getting FOTL. We got the RPR room for a steal tho, $99 for the night and we had ASMU for $59...so we ate the 59 for the room and hit McD's ...knocking about $20 off the cost of park food. It was totally worth it to have the second resort booked. Have a great time!

Just be sure to let housekeeping know that you do not need them on those days. They have to sign off on the rooms as completed or guest refusal or they will keep contacting your room asking when they can clean it.

Because if you have the same people booked at 2 different resorts, it is obvious that you do not plan on keeping both reservations. I think you have 2 weeks prior to your vacation to get your deposit back. Disney would not be making any money from you on one of those rooms. You just lent some to them for a while. People were getting cute and booking, say a room at the Poly and a room at the Pop, and then deciding later which one they could afford. That left lots of rooms empty at the last minute. Not good for business.
