Anyone near Charlotte,NC up to VA Beach, VA

Hi,

Looking for anyone with first hand knowledge of interstate road conditions along I-85. We had planned to drive from Atlanta, GA up to VA Beach today, but are putting it off until tomorrow as here in Atlanta it is still icy. Any tips from other areas how the roads are?

Portsmouth Va (30 minutes east of Va Beach) has 8-9 inches of snow - so stay home today and try it again on Monday

We're in VA Beach - wait for tomorrow. Even the buses have stopped running because of road conditions - I just measured 13" on our table in the backyard. Never seen it like this before!!

Let's put it this way. They closed the shopping malls in this area. If the stores in the Hampton roads area don't think that the after Christmas sale shoppers can't get out to the stores, nobody can get get out!

Hi to my fellow VB peeps! Glad we went to the the Holiday Lights at the Oceanfront last night!

Snow is crazy here! We were supposed to head up to NJ today to visit family but not happening!

Boo-hoo! We were supposed to have started our vacation today driving DOWN to NC.

Not happening so we are staying in NH and waiting our turn for this stupid storm!

I wouldn't come here until the snow is gone. We hardly get snow like this so we are not equipped to handle it safely and efficiently - which is why a small amount of snow can wreck havoc in the region. Its not supposed to get that warm tomorrow - especially not with the chill factor - so it might be until Tuesday before the roads are decent. Even if the Interstate is clear, you still have to deal with the mess of the local roads. I'm right off a main street and the road in front of my house is under a foot of snow.

Charlotte got about 3 inches of snow, and all of ours roads are PERFECTLY clear, including I-85. We just got home from a shopping trip. So don't worry about this leg of the trip

thanks for all the updates...it is hard to know what is really going on when you are planning a trip! I know here in the Atlanta area they have done a much better job managing the snow than last time, but we did not get large amounts
Please keep the updates coming - if we have to stop along the way we would rather than risk getting into ice, even with a 4wd vehicle!

we're in upstate SC and the roads are fine here to. I had to go over towards Charlotte (Steele Creek Rd area) today, about 45 min from home, and never saw one problem with the roads. My cousin lives closer to I-85 (Cherokee/Spartanburg County line) and says the roads are great there to. The only issue is going to be the puddles and wet roads that freeze overnight.

I85 goes straight through our county.

I'll wave at exit 141 hahaha.

While we got over 7 inches, the roads, especially the highway are in excellent shape. I would be cafeful early morning driving because of the black ice.

Keep in mind this is a super busy highway...runs with I40East. There really isn't any easier way because its the highway or back, back roads in the sticks.
Figure out what time y'all will be driving around Charlotte because that is tricky.
Once you get past Durham, away from Raliegh you should be in great shape. It should not be more that 7-8 hours.

Va DOT has closed down a few ramps and almost everything around here as of now is closed down..... and its STILL coming down outside......
just thought I'd letcha know
