I have read quite a few threads regarding solo trips and singles meet and greets. Some stories from first timers others from those who had the "solo bug" bite them and they never looked back:banana: Some from others that wish they never took the plunge :worried:

Im curious to know has anyone gone on a solo cruise and made surprising lasting friendships or have even made a romantic encounter. Anywhere from a "Today is the day I go solo"...to a "wait look what solo has done from me, a new friend I would have never met..to a romantic encounter..whether it was for a night or he/she really surprised me, I didnt know that I would fall for him/her:love:"

Please share if you dare, good or bad:rolleyes1:goodvibes

Some questions to consider: Im glad I went on a solo trip because I met....or I'm never doing that again because of.....

The majority of my visits to WDW and all of my cruises I have been solo trips. On one of my trips to WDW for a runDisney event I met a nice girl also running the race. We have become good friends and have met up at subsequent race events and she is planning a visit to Disneyland on December 29 where we plan to meet up to hang out at both parks. On my solo cruises I have met all sorts of wonderful people and several have become lasting friendships. On my first cruise in September 2010 I met a family and I have become such good friends with them that I have visited their home in VA and most of the runDisney races we meet up and even share a villa. We are even talking about planning another cruise trip together. On that same cruise I also met a mother and daughter and they have also become good friends as well. We have met up at Disneyland and WDW several times and chat all the time on Facebook. I am so extremely grateful and lucky to meet these people and become such good friends. We all are Disney fans in some degree or another but the unfortunate thing is none of them live near me.

While on cruises I have attended a few of the singles meet and greets but that type of setting really never worked for me. The people I've met where just during port adventures, hanging by the pool, the bar or the cafe. None of these encounters have resulted in any romantic encounters but I am not complaining. I wouldn't change anything about the people and families I have met. They are dear friends that I wish I had met years ago.

I'm extremely happy to travel solo because the trips I take are for my enjoyment and I'm not out looking for friends or relationships. The friendship just happen and maybe one day I'll find the perfect someone for me.

That is an inspirational story. Which sounds like what alot people look for when they travel solo or at least it gives those who wonder if they should go solo or not something to look forward to you. It sounds like you are the type of person that never meets a stranger. I do hope you meet that special someone, but it doesn't sound as if that will be a problem for you.

Thank you for sharing your story

I wonder if the lack of "Success", if that's what the OP might see it as, is because most of us who go solo, at least those I've met, are all solo "temporarily", many of us are happily married to someone who's not a Disney fan, or just for whatever reason, not at all interested. As DH always says, "I don't worry about you meeting anyone at WDW [many of his coworkers think there MUST be some hanky-panky to my trips]-that would take away from your maximum fun time with Mickey." And he's so right!
