I got a haircut over the weekend and the woman flat ironed it. It looks amazingly gorgous. I have an older flat iron but I never got my hair this amazing. Anyone have suggestions on one that isnt too expensive that works really well? I have A LOT of wavy hair.

What goop do you put in your hair before you flat iron it? (I probably should have asked the person who cut it but it didnt come to me)

Thanks everyone!

I bought a ceramic one at Sally Beauty. I have heard that Chi is the best but it's $$$ and this one was about $30. I've used it every other day for almost a year and it's still working great!

I use a heat styling spray before ironing it, you can buy one at Sally or now L'Oreal (I think?) has one. I am using that one now and got it at Target for about $3. It protects your hair and helps hold the style longer.

I have a SOLIA that I bought from Follica.com. I love it. I used to have a Conair but once it stopped getting hot I bought a good one.

I'm usually pretty cheap but if you want to get your hair looking like your stylist did you'll need to buy the same products too. The nice thing about the expensie stuff is you use less and they last longer. It almost evens out.

Love my Chi!! Havent found a cheaper one that does just as good. It helps too if you use a straightening shampoo and conditioner.

I have a wigo and love it its around 80.00. but well worth it.

I've been flat ironing my hair for the past 10 years!!! I tried everything (I have naturally thick, curly hair) and nothing compares to my Solano Sapphire. Although it is expensive ($80), it is well worth it. It has lasted me for over 2 years so far and is still going strong.

As far as products, I use BioSilk products as well as Redken Water Wax.

I flat iron my hair every other day-I have a Conair one that works very well. It was probably $25. Make sure it is ceramic.
I have thick, coarse, wavy hair naturally...and having that flat iron has been WONDERFUL! Makes it smooth silky and straight as a pin.
ETA that I use Rusk Str8 for my hair.

Yay! Thanks girls- Maybe I should ask for one for Chanukkah from my parents (my mom still loves getting us 8 nights of presents even though we are all grown up  )

This is what I use and I love it!! Even though it will burn the holy crap out of you if you aren't careful :)

I also bought one for dd from Sally's, she has super kinky hair (see pics in signature) and it works great for her.

We have a chi and we LOVE it!!! My dd's both have wavy hair and it makes their hair so silky and smooth.....my dd13 has already told me that she refuses to go out in public unless she is "chi'd". I have pretty straight hair and it makes it even more straight and silky. I got mine for about 115.00 over 1 1/2 years ago.

I vote for chi!!!!

I have kinky, curly hair. The cheaper irons do not work for me. The more expensive ones tend to get hotter and work better on my hair. My hair stylist uses the Chi iron and she can get my hair silky smooth. I asking for one of these for Christmas. :teeth:

I got both of my girls the one that's $50.00 at Sharper Image. They really like them.

One of the straighteners did stop heating up. Knowing how hard the girls can be on them, I added the replacement insurance when I purchased them. Normally I don't get that, but it was just a few dollars. They replaced it, no problem. :flower:

Oh to have been born with straight hair, right ladies? Back in the 60's, we literally ironed our hair. Nothing like the smell of your hair getting fried. :teeth:

I have been flat-ironing my hair for years, and I use a Chi now. It's the best I've used. It gets extremely hot, which is needed if you have powerful curls or waves like I do. It does a wonderful job on my hair.

You have to keep moving the iron on the hair so you don't burn the ends. I used to hold the iron on the ends, and learned this the hard way. Now I know to keep the iron moving.

thanks for all of the great advice I am in the market for my first flat iron...thanks...

I just bought a flat iron a couple of weeks ago after going to a new hairdresser. I loved how my wavy, uncontrollable hair looked after she used one. I didn't want to spend a gob a money for my first flat iron, so I used a 20% off coupon at Linens and Things and bought a vidal sasson ceramic straightener. I really like it. I use some straightening gel that I bought at the saloon (just takes a small amount), blow my hair completely dry (while occassionally brushing my hair), and then use the flat iron. I have thick hair, so I use a clip to hold the top layer back while I use the flat iron on the bottom (underneath) layers first. My hair is so smooth when I'm finished.

I love my Chi! I know it's very expensive... but it is worth every penny! I don't have to pay $$ just to get my hair done at a beauty shop . I just do it myself! I have slilghtly wavy hair... and to see my hair super straight is a treat!

I had been using a flat iron for about a year and even though it would come out great, over the course of a few hours, especially in the heat and humidity, it would be worthless.
A few weeks ago I got the CHI striaghtening treatment done and absolutely love. I save about 15 minutes on my morning routine every day, plus I can even go without drying my hair and it still comes out straight, which saves more time. I feel like a new person. :goodvibes

I love my CHI! I've had a few others and they didn't compare. I spent about $85 on ebay for it adn it was worth every penny! It makes my hair so straight and shiny, and it works so much faster than the cheap ones!

Christinadei...I promised my sister a CHI for christmas (she's 18 and I still don't remember promising it) :confused3 But I was also looking on ebay for one and saw they are about 85.. for brand new in the box, but was skeptical about ordering it. Can you pm me the person who you bought it from if you still have it? Thanks!
