Anyone lost their luggage??

I booked the DCL shuttle to Port Canaveral from Orlando. MS said to place the red tags on our luggage and the DCL staff would take our luggage from the baggage claim and transport to the ship. We wouldn't see our luggage til we went to our rooms. Has anyone ever lost their luggage with this method?? It sounds like a great way to start your vacation by someone else handling your luggage. I'm just concerned about missing bags or getting someone else's bags in place of mine. I hope I'm just being over cautious . I heard the same thing in reverse for the way home .
Any thoughts ??

After 5 cruises, we have not had even 1 piece of luggage misplaced and have used the transfers in at least 1 direction every time. They know exactly where to get the luggage and do keep lists of who's coming in on what flight to look for it. You either gave them your flight number or booked air thru them, right? The only simple way your luggage would get lost is if the airline lost it, a rare thing nowadays.

Now, for the way back, the airlines themselves for a good number of them will check your luggage and issue boarding passes immediately at the port before you board the shuttle back to the airport.

We had luggage "misplaced" but not the way you are talking about.

We did our own transportation. So we dropped our five pieces of luggage at the port, and they arrived at our room shortly after 2:00. At 11:00pm the night before we left, we left them outside our stateroom to be picked up.

We debarked and got our luggage to clear customs. One, two, three, four...hey! Where is the fifth peice of luggage? We looked all over, no bag (didn't help that it was a black rolling "maximum carryon size" bag). We ended up filling out a loss report and leaving without it (it was laundry). They said if they found it, it might make it on our plane (they had our information), or we might be paged at MCO. But we didn't get paged and when we got to our own hometown airport, it didn't appear on the carrossel. When we walked into our home, our answering machine had a message on it from a luggage service manager for Delta in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. (We flew Northwest, direct from MCO to MSP). They had our bag. Delta kindly put it on a plane to Minneapolis and then (even nicer) had one of their luggage service staff in Minneapolis drop it by our house.

Apparently, our black carryon got set with the luggage for another stateroom, where that stateroom had lost their tag. They grabbed ours leaving, checked it in through Ft. Wayne, then discovered they had the wrong bag at the airport. So it wasn't the airlines fault. DCL had our stateroom listed as "missing a bag" when we picked up our luggage, so the people who grabbed our bag weren't completely at fault, either - although had they checked the tags while they were debarking, they would have left our bag - our case was labeled with both my business card and our yellow "chip and dale" DCL pick up tags.

(Then again, I got to luggage pickup in SF once to find a woman going through my underwear in an attempt to figure out of my bag was hers! Excuse me? Check the tag - or at least say "hey, I don't wear this size/color/brand/style of underwear before you have half my bag emptied!)

I've heard people losing their luggage when they leave, but not boarding so far.

We arrived at MCO at 4PM and were wisked onto a DCL bus immediately - without our luggage. Guest Services arranged for our luggage to be flown to St. Maarten. We received it early Tuesday morning. In the mean time Guest Services was teriffic. They filed a claim with Delta for compensation, they arranged for our laundry to be done daily, they arranged for us to have formal wear for formal night and provided toiletries and bathrobes. It really wasn't all that bad. DCL does their best to make sure you are well-taken care of.

In St. Maarten we received all 5 of our bags and had not problem going through customs and checking them in at the terminal rfor our flight on US AIR. It was very convenient and I would not hesitate to let DCL handle all our baggage again.

Edited to add: We spoke with a family who lost one bag upon boarding. It just never made it up to their room. That bag was also flown to St. Maarten once it was located.
