Anyone live in a "Celebration-like" community?

OK, this is a place a lot further North. My ds attends UW Milwaukee. We just moved him out of the dorms and 1/2 block south of the campus. He is renting the lower 1/2 of a million dollar home. His friend dad is very well off and he bought the home for his son so he could live their. My ds rent is $600 with everything included.

There are about 6 roads that go South of the campus and North of the campus are very nice homes. To the East of the Campus is Lake Michigan and the parks, soccer fields, bike paths, joggy paths etc. There are very strict rules on parking. Some of these homes have back yards that go down to the lake. Most of these homes were built at the turn of the century and are Victorian homes. There are a few homes that were maybe built later, but they would be considered carriage houses. There are no apartment complexes in the vicinity just these grand ole houses.

Even on campus there are a few homes sprinkled in for the President of the school. Very nice area, but the housing cost around UW-Milwaukee is outragious.

I lived in a planned community north of Houston that kind of reminds me of Celebration. This community has all kinds of subdivisions and each subdivision has a community pool and an elementary school. You can walk or bike to these easily. Each subdivision has at least one park (usually at the pool). There are over 80 miles of trails that link all the subdivisions and shopping areas. There are 2 "Town centers" and like 4 golf courses. There are subdivisions that are geared to the retirees and apartments and condos for the younger set. I can ride my bike everywhere for everything. I love it. On the negative side is the HOA-I like restrictions but I have never lived in such a restricted place. We've never had any trouble but others have. I love the amenities-that's why we stay. Good luck

Beaufort, SC has a few Celebration-type communities. Habersham and Coosaw Point are beautiful low-country designed communities. Amazing with equally amazing price tags. ;)

My parents live in this community (VOIS) and I live right outside of it. :)

You do have some amazing HOA fees there! That's why I live in Spring.

Hi Am I!! Where is Vois? :confused3 I was talking about Kingwood. I know where Spring is..ds has a therapist in Old Town Spring. I've never heard of Vois but would like to see it! We've been here for going on 4 years and love it. Is your dh with the Spring Fire Dept? Mine used to be a fireman years ago when we lived in Ohio-he loved it but didn't make a career of it b/c our small community was a volunteer group back then.

Oh, how funny. I just automatically assumed you were referring to The Woodlands! VOIS, would be the Village of Indian Springs. Ooops!

I just sold a home in Kingwood not too long ago and although I'm a born and raised Houstonian, it was the first time I've ever been there! Isn't that sad?

My DH is a career firefighter with the City of Conroe.

LOL now I know where you mean. The Woodlands is so cool, but it was a bit pricey for us and way out of the way for dh's work, but back then I didn't really understand how everything is out of the way here. When I first moved here I didn't understand how anyone could live in let's say Kingwood and never get to the Heights or the Woodlands but now that it's been 4 years I don't get out much either. The beach is the exception. It's not easy to venture out when you have everything you need within a couple of miles. Back in Ohio, the closest Starbuck's was 10 miles (and a half hour) away, now I have 2 of them within 5 minutes of the house. God Blees your husband for being a fireman-and God Bless you for being married to him!! :sunny:

I think that these places are nice but I don't think that they'd work for me. While I do like some restrictions (and our town luckily has quite a few), I find that many of these places are way too strict for my taste. They can get downright silly at times and I'd rather not deal with that personally.

Plus the cookie cutter look of many of them doesn't appeal to me. Some individuality is more my style.

Same here. They are wonderful for some people but not us!
