Anybody know why the Disney resorts, as well as many offsite hotels, are so booked next week? Is the Superbowl contributing? I don't think schools are on vacation right now, are they?

Not real sure, but my guess is that some is due to the super bowl and probably because racing at Datona will be starting shortly. And there's usually a convention or two in town.

I called last week for a reservation for Fri-Tues and everything was booked. I was able to get a room Sat - Tues at the AKL. This was a last minute trip, I would of been bummed if nothing was available. I also want to know what is happening. I do know some schools in NJ have a winter break in Feb., but I don't know any dates.

It seems like there were many last minute bookings for this time period. A little over a month ago, I was still able to find availability during February for clients. Within the last two or three weeks though, it seems like just about everything has filled up.

Southwest aitlines was offering some incredible airfare deals up until 2/17/05 from Northeast locations. That may have spurred people to make last minute plans. I know in mid-January, I was finding airfare as low as $120RT from Baltimore. Plus, it has been so cold and snowy in the Northeast that people are eager to take a break to a warm, sunny place.

Super Bowl in Jacksonville 2/6
Rolex 24 at Daytona 2/5-2/6
Nascar at Daytona 2/12-2/20

Also lots of families are leaving for Mardi Gras - the kids here have mon, tues and wed off - I know lots of families that are left last night for an extra long weekend!

People trying to book a vacation while it's still value season, before the Peak season begins. Probably some sporting events going on at WWOS too! Schools do not need to be out for WDW to be busy. We were there the second week of December and the parks were at capacity several days and the resorts where sold out. The great prices for airfare is a big contributing factor too. Airfare out of Wash. DC was averaging around $100 roundtrip recently.

I bet Disney resort manaagment are happy with the airlines.

;)

This happened in November, too, when I was trying to do the same. Some felt it was the people who were making up for the time they lost in the hurricanes. We just came back from doing the same (lost part of our trip due to Frances). I'm sure the airfares are helping, too, as well as the new EMH and MYW packages. Maybe people are just recognizing the plusses of going in the value season.

I was told by a front desk person at one of Disney's resorts they often have "walk in" space available. It could be risky, but if you really want to go you could book somewhere cheap offsite and take your chances on getting something when you get there. Good Luck. :wizard:

I just heard on the news that Jacksonville is the smallest city ever to host the Super Bowl. They are expecting over 100,000 to attend the festivities, but the city can only accomodate 35,000, which I think includes the cruise lines they are bringing in to add more rooms. I know if I were going to the Super Bowl that close to Disney, I would add on a trip to Orlando as well.

The National Cheerleading Championships are at Disney from Feb 11-15. That's why everything is so booked. Check out the www.varsity.com (?) site for info. They are competing at Disney Sports complex and are staying at two properties on site.

I think it is a combination of all the things mentioned by posters upthread. Superbowl, Daytona, Mardi Gras and other school vacations, cheerleading and other conventions, cheap airfare, winter weather up north, etc etc.

I tried for President's Weekend dates over a month ago, and the places I wanted were all booked up. (WDW deluxes)

If my hubby was going to the Superbowl, you can bet the rest of the family would be staying at WDW! (well, actually, I would want to go to the game too, but some/most wives would not)
