I have 4 boys. My oldest is 14 and 6'1. He has outgrown his twin bed. I would like to get him a XL long full bed or an XL long twin bed. I've been searching but they aren't easy to find. Anyone know a good source??? I need the bed not the sheets. Thx

I don't think they make XL full anymore, but XL twins should be fairly easy to find. Do you have a furniture store that has a bedding department? That's where I bought the XL twin for my granddaughter.

My boys are both 6'3" and have had Queen sized beds since before they were teens. The beds aren't extra long, but being Queen sized they both sort of lay at an angle across the bed. Worked best for us.

We live in NY and had the same problem with oldest ds. We got him a twin XL mattress at Sleepys a few years ago.

I never looked around and ended up just buying a Queen bed gives you 5 inches extra in length. I realize not everyone has that amount of space but it's something to consider.

Sears actually sells full extra long beds. They are on their website. I can't imagine a 6'1" person sleeping comfortably in twin sized bed. even if it was extra long! My 14 year old daughter is just 5'0" and has a full sized bed. Even when I was a little kid by the time I hit teenage years the twin size bed was swapped for a full size.

I did. And I'm 6'2". That is what I slept in until I was 24.

Thanks for the help. I have to put 2 boys in a room so although I'd love to get Queen size I don't have space for 2 in the room. There is no way they would share the same bed it would b a Texas cage match every night.

What about a bunk bed with a full or queen on the bottom and a twin on top? That's what my dh and his brother slept in for years.

I googled around real quick and several places (Overstock etc) sell a Twin XL platform bed. You could either put a Memory Foam or regular mattress on it. The only actual Twin XL bed frame I saw was on Sears.

If you goggle college dorm furniture you will find lots of websites that sell xl beds since they are common in college dorms.

My oldest DS is 6'1" and slept in a regular twin bed until he was 24, except for his first two years of college where he was supplied with an XL twin bed. After that he had his twin again til he bought his own queen sized when he was on his own.

And,yes, dorms pretty much all use XL twin beds. We had to buy the XL sheets for both boys to use in college.

My DS is only 14 and is already 6'1. My DH is 6'7 so I'm not sure how much taller DS will be. My youngest DSs are 11 yr old twins and they are already my height (5'6). I wish they still made the XL full size bed. It would give them extra length and width. But it seems I may have to settle for twin XL.

Thanks for the thoughts but I have 4 DSs (14,13,11,11). Currently they sleep in a room with 2 bunk beds (they all wanted to be together but this summer I'm moving the 2 oldest (14 and 13) into another room. So each bedroom will have 2 boys in it.

I would go to a mattress store and ask if they can order a twin or full XL mattress box spring and frame from any companies that they sell in the store. If not, try another store that sells different brands.

I don't think it will be as hard as you think to get full XL beds. The first store I tried, I clicked mattresses-special sizes-full xl. There are 35 to choose from just from Slumberland. I think affordable bedding may be more difficult to find than the beds themselves.

Thanks so much. I was looking for furniture - headboard -footboard. You know a bed. Not just the mattress and frame. (sleighbed, traditional, etc wood furniture)I think thats why I'm having difficulty. I hope I'm explaining myself clearly.

Once you have the xl mattress and frame you can use a regular size headboard and footboard. Typically they screw into or hook into the frame. The screw holes or hooks should be in the same place on an xl frame as they are on a regular one.

:flower3: How embarrassing I never knew that! All our beds had wooden side slats that I thought screwed into the head and footboard. Therefore I thought I needed to buy a new bed :headache: So I am making this harder than it has to be.
