Found these today growing up the side of our shed and the kids' play set.

Any ideas what they are????

The first picture looks like something that used to grow in my parents' backyard when I was little. I don't know what they're called, but I don't think they're edible. My dad always cautioned us not to put them in our mouths. I remember birds eating the berries and then acting drunk!:rotfl:

The top one - I don't recall the name but I've always been told they are NOT to be eaten. I remember playing with them as a kid, throwing the berries at each other, and getting in trouble. They stained our skin and our clothes. It was great fun as a kid though!

The bottom - at first I thought blueberries but then I thought grapes. :confused3 I couldn't say with any certainty.

Top one is Poke Berries. Not sure why but for some reason I hate them. They are very proliferate. Cut them down asap. The other two pics look like grapes to me also.

The bottom pictures look like something we have here called Oregon Grape. . .BUT it looks like the leaves are different so I'm not sure. :confused3

First pic is Pokeberry (Pokeweed, Poke Bush, etc)

Second plant is Virginia Creeper. There is a pic on this page that shows the fruit. The fruit is not common so interesting find. I had to go digging for the fruit since I have really never seen it with it. However I knew it had to be Virginia Creeper from the leaf.

I think the grape like ones are pretty, are you going to keep them or cut them down?

I would rip them all out but that is because they will choke out everything. I would keep my Creeper in the wild where it belongs.;)

I do have to say all of ours are scarlet red on the trees and very beautiful now.

Ahhh. . yeah! My Mom has some of that. It's not common here. Her sister from North Dakota gave her some starts. Her's has never set berries. I would keep it. It's a pretty nice vine. JMHO.

Poke is not poisonous and, in fact is commonly eaten around here in the spring as a green. Have you heard the song "Poke Sallet Annie"? The berries are inedible to people but the birds seem to love them.

Cut that pokeberry down!!! It will spread like wildfire and they are a pain in the rear once they get really big. The berry-like things will stain everything, so use caution!

Are the second and third pictures the same plant? They look a lot like buckthorn. It's invasive here in MN. We cut a lot of it out in our previous yard.
