Anyone know the rules on a castmembers discounts?

My mother in law told me yesterday that my husband's cousin gets discounts as a castmember and that she can get 40% off a hotel room. Does anyone know if they can get discounts off of park tickets too (if they are NOT there with us)? And anything on the dining plan? If not, then it makes more sense to just wait and see if free dining will be announced for Sept 2012.

I am curious to find out as well. I am new to Disney and going there for the first time in September 2012. I know my Best friend works for them in Orlando and get 40 - 50% off hotel rooms, she just quoted us prices (today) for the 2nd full week at AS Sports for $365 for 6 nights, and $425 for AS Movies and Music for the same week. Pop is blocked out currently, and that's the resort we would prefer. We're a family of 4, with 2 kids age 4.

For tickets, she's signing us in, so those will be free for 3 of the 4 of us, so I can't help you there. I will have to buy a child ticket for the week, which I'm happy to do with the discount, and she offered to buy a child ticket with her FL resident discount since she's signing us in each day. I know that they frequently get points or something which can turn into free tickets if they like, but you'd have to ask the cousin to see if he'll let you use his points. I know CMs usually use them towards free dinners for themselves, or for shows for their own families.

i'm trying to find out how much the dining plan would be. I know right now you can't buy it without buying park tickets, however if a cast remember buys it through you, perhaps you can buy it for a severe discount. My BF hasn't had time to look this up for me since this is their busy week. I can find out next week.

Since your hubby's cousin is not signing you in the park, chances are it could be cheaper for you to find a code and do the park with free dining for the week.

Also, if you go in September, ask the cousin to get your discounted tix to the Not So Scary Halloween Party, I know CMs can get $20 off tix in September without real problem, it's in October they will have a hard time getting you a discount. She told me it will likely be about $40/ticket for each of us for the MNSSHP. There is no limit, so I'm sure the cousin would be happy to do this for you if you ask and give him the dates you'll be there.

Like I said, I'm new. And I'm trying to save money and I would not be going if my Best friend didn't work there and get me discounts.
