My mom has a non-Disney timeshare that apparently has exchange privileges with DVC properties. I went to their website to see whether all the properties were available for vacation rentals, and all were listed as available except BCV, which they said is "under construction". Having been to BCV in late Sept., I know this is not the case. My question is: does Disney wait until its new properties are sold out to make them available for exchange with other timeshare companies? I have called DVC and my mom's timeshare company and can't seem to get a straight answer on how long it will take before BCV is available to non-DVC timeshare owners for exchange. My mom wants to treat me and my family to a trip in May, and I just wanted to make sure that if BCV isn't going to be available then, that we make plans to stay elsewhere soon!

Thanks for your help,
Sarah

As you know, BCV is open. I'm not positive how trades are done but it is usually fairly difficult for a non-DVC timeshare to trade into DVC. Not impossible, but difficult. I'm not sure how much mixing of resorts is done. It may be that a BCV owner has to want to trade out in order for you to trade in. Very few BCV owners will probably be trading out right now since they are new owners and probably want to visit BCV themselves.

Make back up plans. The chances of an exchange into DVC from a non-Disney timeshare are very small. Chances of trading into any DVC resort except HHI and OKW are virtually zero.

When a DVC member uses his/her DVC membership to trade to an II resort, MS deposits the lowest cost week available that will meet the requirements. That is almost always OKW or HHI in Adventure or Choice seasons.

You might ask you mother call the timeshare exchange service and ask them how many requests for any WDW DVC have actually been filled over the past 5 years. I think you will find that the percentage of successes (vs requests) is less than 5%.

If you really want to stay at BCV, my advice is to either rent points from a DVC member or attempt to find a DVC member willing to trade for your mother's timeshare week.

Good luck!

Only OKW will be even remotely available at WDW. Though II will allow you to list WLV, BWV and soon BCV; you will not get an exchange for the reasons Carol mentions. Your chances of getting anything are slim, I'd look for an alternative. Maybe the Marriott's, Orange Lake or similar off property or renting points would be best.
