that actually stays on natural nails? I'm sooo tired of repainting - or touching up & the manicures I get aren't any better.

You'd think with today's technology nail polish could stay on for months at a time.....:sad2:

Use a clear coat be sure good and dry then apply your color (or what you want as top) and let dry well in between then add another coat...let dry well and apply a top clear coat...Once this good and dry ( I keep repeating this as this is #1 reason nails will chip off) Take emery board or nail file and litely file around tips or ends of nail this helps them from chipping. I use OPI color and undercoat but the top coat usually Revlon or Loreal top coat. Takes me forever to do my nails but they last two three weeks in water a lot. If they get dull I add clear top coat if they chip hit with dab of the color and then add clear top coat..Hope works for you:surfweb: real short nails will always chip easier by the way:sad1:

I've tried all the industry tricks. (basecoat, clear coat, professional polish, etc.) Nothing will stay on my fingernails for more than about a half a day. I touch up often or go without. I'm told it is because my nails are very smooth (naturally.)

I've found I like a french manicure, I guess it is less obvious when it chips or something, but it looks the best longest.

My nails grow too fast for paint to last longer than a week. I just think that since nails grow, the polish can't last very long.

My mom and I were just talking about this today. There is a new product called Shellac. You can google it and read about it, but it is supposed to last 14 days without chipping or peeling. You can also go to their website and type in your state and zip and find a salon near you that has it. The price in Tennesse to have a Shellac manicure is around $30-$35. I personally haven't tried it, but it sure does sound too good to be true. I hate it when my polish chips!

Justin Bieber has a nailpolish line coming out in December. Maybe he will finally solve this problem :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

I've tried the base coat, color & top coat myself & had the OPI applied at a salon & they haven't made a difference.

I did just stumble across Revlon's promise for polish to last 10days if you use their top, base & color. SOOOO I have bought those & painted my nails.

I will wait and see.

I have not let my nails dry in between coats - they don't do that in the salon so I thought it was okay not to wait.

Have you tried kinda buffing/roughing up the surface of your nail before you start with your base coat?

I'll be honest though - I get longer than a half a day, but I don't think any woman gets more than maybe 5/6? Maybe? If they're lucky? And don't do anything but sit and admire their nails for 5 days?

And I'd say most women, after doing dishes, typing on their PC, just normal stuff gets 3 or 4 days.

ETA - Me:

Buff my nails
Nailtek Foundation (both of these) - http://www.amazon.com/Nail-Tek-Intensitive-Foundation-Size-5x2/dp/B000RLXG6W - very old school, but work unbelievably well.
Whatever color I want - whatever brand (I'm not a polish snob)
Seche Vite top coat.

Get a CND Shellac manicure. It is like a miracle polish! I had my mani done a week before our WDW trip and not only did it make it up to the trip, but lasted another 2 weeks. I had 3 weeks of shiny, chip free polish! No nicks, scratches etc. I cooked, sewed, swam, did it all. The only reason why I had to take it off was because my nails had grown so much. It goes on your natural nails, no buffing, drilling etc. When you want it off you soak your nails in acetone remover for 5-10 mins and it pops right off, no damage to your nails at all. Here in NY it is $30-$35 and well worth it in my experience!

I use the Revlon 10 day and love it! It lasts 10 days. Around that time it starts wearing down on the edges from eveyday use but it doesn't chip! :lovestruc

I stopped getting manicures and only get pedicures now. I can never get more than a day or two out of a manicure, but I can usually get 6 to 8 weeks out of a pedicure. When I do get a manicure, I just get clear polish, so it doesn't matter.

Good - I'm gonna hang in there then....and keep my fingers crossed! I do already have one @ the tip showing a bit of white - but nothing as bad as chipping - so I can live with that!

yep my pedicure lasts forever....I wish that would happen for my fingernails! I have hope though! LOL

I'll have to check into those - I'm too cheap though - I'll see if anyone does one around here & then just remember it if I need it for a special ocassion.

I was getting them done @ the local school here for $8 - just haven't been back lately - just decided to use all the polish I have & do my nails & my girls all at the same time.

Minx is the answer. Not polish I know, but sure gets the result you're after.

Do they make Revlon Color Stay polish any more? I don't paint my nails often, but when I do, this is what I use from my "stock". I just painted them a few weeks ago & it lasted for 2 weeks.

Maybe this 10 day line is the same thing. :confused3

CND Shellac is a miracle! Ive been getting mine now for months and it is everything proof. Yes, it is a bit more expensive, but I could pay $20 for a manicure every week or pay the $35 every 14-18 days... Comes out the same! And no need to travel around with extra polish in my bag to fix nicks and peels! Its really not for special occasions, its for long lasting manicures.

Is that the same Shellac we used in crafts in the 1970's?

:rotfl:No...It is a hybrid polish/gel. It is a 3 part system: basecoat, color coat and topcoat. It is called a SOG-Soak off gel manicure. I wouldn't suggest trying the old school shellac!
