My friend went to a Friendly's restaurant when she went to Boston last year, and hasn't stopped talking about it since. She insists that we go to one while we are in FL. I looked up locations and found out that there are two in Orlando. I believe the closest one was located on International Dr. or something like that. We're staying offsite, right by DTD. Anyone have any idea how to get to the restaurant from the DTD area. Should we take bus? A cab? We won't have a rental car.

Are you talking about "Friendly's" the chain? I can't imagine what she can't stop talking about! I mean it's fine for a good meal at a good price but it's probably about a step up from going to the diner. They do have good ice cream sundaes, maybe that's what she is talking about. I would say check mapquest for directions but you said you don't have a car. I would just take a cab. :cool1:

I grew up with Friendly's... and it isn't worth the cab ride. It's just like a Perkins, or a Denny's... but with really good ice cream sundaes. However, Ghiardelli's at Downtown Disney also has really good sundaes.

Funny, we went to Friendly's for dinner last night and couldn't stop talking about all the places we were going to eat on our Disney trip. It is surprising to me that the restaurant stuck in her mind so strongly. We only went because we're selling our house, had four showings yesterday and needed to stay out until 7:30 p.m.

Kids get a free ice cream sundae with their meal so they always vote for Friendly's. Plus, we had coupons. It isn't a place I'd make a special trip for while on vacation but if it were nearby and I wanted something decent and fairly inexpensive I'd stop.

Off of Friendlys.com, there is one on 8718 International Drive.

I do not get on 4 to get to this part of International Drive. From S. Appoloka/Lake Buena Vista Gate (left), I take the Lake Street (r) to Palm Parkway (northeast), to Tukey hill road (n), to West sand Lake Road (e) go under 4, then south (or right) onto International Drive.

Suggestion: If you have the address of your hotel I would get directions for this from mapquest.

Their corporate headquarters is maybe 10 minutes from my house and there are Friendlys all over the place. In addition you can get ice cream in the supermarkets up here. Agree with Tyler that the sundays are good but the food is just OK.

It's definitely a kids place though. For some reason DD loves going to eat there.

I can't imagine what she can't stop talking about!

i grew up with friendly's and their ice cream sundaes, fribbles, etc. are awesome. we can't get anything like my favorite friendly's sundae where i live now, and i go to friendly's whenever i get the chance. :)

They used to have a peanut butter cup sundae that was to die for. Peanut butter fudge ice cream, hot fudge, peanut butter sauce, whipped cream, marshmallow fluff (on the large), and a peanut butter cup. YUM!

We have Friendly's here in western Mass. My DH prefers the hot fudge sundaes from Friendly's over the one at Ghiradelli in DTD. He had his first one last week at Ghiradelli, but thought the sauce was much thinner than at Friendly's with more of a dark chocolate taste. Good thing I only paid 1/2 price for that sundae with the coupon I got thanks to the DIS!

I LOVE the Swiss Chocolate Almond Sundae from Friendly's myself. I even take a chance eating it with my lactose intolerence, but it's sooo worth it!

Their reeses sundaes are really good, too. They have a caramel sundae right now that's pretty yummy.

They used to have better watermelon coolers - had one a couple of weeks ago and it was too sweet.

Beaches and cream is better IMO, but maybe its the atmosphere. Ghiradelli too.
