Anyone know how to get any good discounts at one of the three Disneyland hotels

Especially with the 60th birthday starting around that time, you probably won't see much discount possibilities. AP may have a slight discount (about 10%) for the weekday nights, but probably not much more than that. If you have a disney visa card, there may possibly be some small discounts as well. You can also check Costco Travel to see if they have any travel packages available during that time.

DLR just doesn't have the good discounts like WDW. Even when they do have a discount it generally is smaller than what we typically get at WDW. I have just resigned myself that 4 nights on property at DLR is going to cost me the same as we spend for 7 nights on property in a category deluxe at WDW.

On the bright side, DLR is great! Have a wonderful trip!

Any discounts DL will be offering for then aren't posted yet. DL seems to publish discounts a couple months in advance instead of 5 months in advance like you can see with WDW. Lately, the discounts have been for weekday stays while weekends and high-traffic days were blocked out. The current discount for jan-mar varies from 15%-25% Sun-Thur with blockout days depending on date and room type. This is found directly from the DL website under places to stay > offers and discounts.

Based on my research, Orbitz. I booked for DLR when they had a 15% off code

anyone know if we go ahead and book and than a discount happens can I change the rate?

I second Orbitz. They usually offer the official Disney rates, but allow the use of a promo code (there are usually 15% off codes around, sometimes 20% off codes). We have had very good luck doing this.

The negatives to using Orbitz are that you have to pay in full at time of reservation (they will offer a very quick refund if you have to cancel) and you can't make any special room requests with your reservation (such as requesting a certain location within the hotel).

Yes, you can. I have done it more than once. For us, they rebooked us and then canceled our original reservation. You have to be more than 30 days out from your trip though- otherwise you will incur the change fee. (It is just like WDW- where you can do it as long as you are more than 45 days out or else you incur their change fee).
