I'm not sure. I would think it would fall under medical expenses, but don't quote me on that...just a guess. even so, we itemize but have never been able to deduct medical because the amount would have to be astronomical for it to count...has to be a certain percentage of your income. I know the IRS has a helpline you can call during tax time. I would think you could call them directly and ask. Good luck!
edited to add that you got me thinking so I checked out their site. this link may help. Particularly this quote,
"Medical expenses include dental expenses, and in this publication, the term medical expenses is often used to refer to medical and dental expenses. "
another quote explains what I was trying to say up above:
"You can deduct only the part of your medical and dental expenses that is more than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. If your medical and dental expenses are not more than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income, you cannot claim a deduction."
If you itemize, medical and dental expenses are deductible above 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. You can also include mileage to and from medical/dental appointments; co-pays; perscriptions meds; any out of pocket medical insurance premiums...
