Anyone know anything about collared lizards?

DS is going to be getting a reptile of some sort in the next few weeks, and we've just about decided on a collared lizard. They look very cool, they're friendly, hardy, and sound fairly easy to take care of. Anyone have one of these? Our 2nd choice is a striped mud turtle or southern painted turtle, but the lizard seems to like being handled more and doesn't sound like it would require quite as much care.

I don't know much about them, but have you thought about a bearded dragon. They are very family friendly.

The cats prefer dead reptiles around here.

I have bearded dragons are cool

We thought about bearded dragons too, but the collared lizards seem even friendlier and we all thought they were cooler looking. We took them out and played with them at the pet store today and they'll jump right on your hand when you put it in the cage and crawl up your arm and sit on your shoulder. Here's a picture of one I found:

JTB, the funny thing is, I am absolutely terrified of snakes, but I like lizards. Go figure! :o

Anybody? Surely someone around here must have seen or heard of these things. ;)

Sorry Wendy, not around here.

Is there a reptile show in your area? We have one, once a month at the fair grounds and there are a lot of people there that know what they are talking about.

good luck :)
