Anyone know about room 7636 Cat 5 Deck 7 Handicapped room?

Any tips/info would be great!

Thanks!

Hi Karkies!
Last December we got to look inside of a handicapped cabin. I'm not 100% on which one it was, but I believe it was 7636. It was on deck 7 in the rear of the ship. We wanted to see it because we'd like to bring both my handicapped parents on a future cruise with us. The deck was enormous. It had to be 40 feet long. It was more than able to handle multiple wheelchairs. The room was much larger too by virtue of where it is on the ship. The one and only bathroom was spacious and the height levels were for a person in a wheelchair. It had a walk in shower with no tub. I was impressed with the emergency calling cords in the bathroom. We were told that they were connected to the control room of the ship. If there was a problem someone would come immediately or call. We wouldn't have to wait for guest services. The only problem I could see is that the closet rods were still at standard height, just like in the other cabins. I suppose there's no way around that. I only wish I had taken photos. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any other question I can help with.

You know thinking about it, it must have been a category 6 because it had a regular balcony, not navigator's.

We had this room 2 weeks ago on the Wonder, to was HUGE. We loved it. There was tons of room for our 22 month old to play. DH estimated the verandah to be 25 feet long. There was a large table and chairs and then a smaller table on the verandah. We thought the location was fine (I was a little worried we would feel like it was forever to the front the the ship). Our only complaint is it is loud when the ship pulled into (or out of) port. The room seemed to shake, but we quickly got over it. It does not have the "split" bathroom, just one big room and just a shower.

I have some picture of the room at this link (they are on the second page at the end). I have a couple more if you would like to give me your email address.

If you have any other questions, I will try to answer them!

Just curious as to how people are assigned this room. Obviously people who need this room would have first choice. If it is not booked by someone who needs it, will they give it to anyone else?

We booked 6 days before the cruise started, we asked for a Cat 6 and they were sold out so we went ahead and got the Cat 5. The cruise seem very full, and I am thinking this may have been one of the only Cat 5 available with such short notice. I do not know for sure.

Thanks sapp 1227

Thankfully, we do not need the room. I wonder if they keep it open until the very end to make sure someone who does need it, gets it. I wonder if it is used as an upgrade at the last minute?

Thanks, Lorie

Last May when we were cruising we had booked a handicap room since we were taking my godson Matt....when he died a few weeks prior to the cruise we called Disney and told them that we no longer needed the handicap room and they could switch us to a regular one so someone that needed it could have it but they told us to just keep it if we wanted it. It was a really big room...I cant recall the room number but we were right next to the secret deck 7....in fact people would stand on the deck and look over onto our Verandah! The Verandah was very large, we had a table, 4 chairs and 2 recliners out there and there was still plenty of room. The closet is a walk in closet with ample room and the bathroom is very large, though it was a bit of a pain since my 2 year old hates showers and there is no tub in that room so I had to fight with her to shower her. If you push one of the help buttons located in numerous places throughout the room the bridge will call down in seconds! I speak from experience on that one....a 2 year old...buttons....luckly after the first time I got tape and put it over all the buttons so she couldn't get at them again! The room was very noisy when we docked, it sounded like the anchor and chain were dropping right next to us. What REALLY puzzled me about the room though is that is is a handicap room...which means some people that use it may be totally confined to wheelchairs etc and the verandah is a metal one so you can't see a thing unless you stand up to look over the rail!

I don't know how I forgot about the "help" buttons. "We" called for help, too. I think aprilgail had the room next to the one we had. Our room did not have the walk-in closet, and I wished I had one of those recliners off your verandah:D .

aprilgail 2, I'm so sorry about your godson. That must have been a difficult time for you. It says alot about you that you wanted someone else to be able to use the room even though you were going through this.

You mentioned the secret deck next to yours. That doesn't make much sense that you really can not see from the room deck. How unfortunate. It would be nice if there was a way to go directly from the room deck to the bigger deck for more space.
