hi all,
can anyone post a link or have the name of a hotel near wdw that is clean, nice and cheap, and that offers tranportation to the parks?for family coming with us in feb.T.I.A.

If they really can't drive themselves, I'd argue strongly for staying onsite. I'm not aware of an offsite location with what I'd consider "good" shuttle service; even the DTD hotels are spotty. Are they AAA members? If so, they can get 15%-20% off the value rates, depending on exactly when they check in (20% in Value season, 15% in Peak.)

The DTD hotels have decent bus service, a family of 5 might get a good deal with the Doubletree. Try sites like this one and mousesavers for good discounts. Any other offsite hotel has spotty shuttles and you'll wind up having to supplement the free shuttles with cabs. There is not guarantee the shuttle that is free when you book will still be free when you arrive.

A family of 4 would do better just booking a Disney value. You'll save on the airport transfers.

I agree the values resorts are a better value if no one in this party will be driving.

most offsite shuttles comes 2 or 3 times in the morning, 3 or 4 times in the evening. If you miss it you get a cab. If the bus is full you get a cab. Lots of these shuttles stop at several resorts. So just because you get on the bus at 8:00am does not mean you will get to the parks by 9:00am.

disney ME - magical express will take them back and forth to the airport for free - but only if they are staying in a WDW resort.

the DD hotels, D/S are not WDW resorts.

if you still go offsite make the hotel send you their bus schedule - if they refused or claim they can't - go elsewhere.

We stayed at the Best Western DTD in May and it was great. I have never stayed onsite but from what I understand the room at the value resorts are smaller than the ones at BW. We had plenty of room for the four of us and we could also open our double stroller to dry out at night without it being in the way. We ahd a good sized bathroom and a counter with mirror outside the bathroom, coffee maker, ironing board, closet and balcony (the hotel is an indoor entry) they had very friendly and helpful bellhops and a great breakfast buffet! The transportation was fine too. The buses begin running an hour before the parks open (you share busses with the other DTD hotels) and arrive every 20 min running ALL DAY MK has its own bus MGM and Epcot share, AK and water parks share also but I guess in December that may not be a problem. We took cab to Sea World for $20 (I can't remember if that was each way or not) I think after we got picked up it took @ 30-45 minutes to get to the parks depending on traffic. Buses pick up from the parks at 15 and 45 of the hour so not too bad although they can get crowded. I hope this helps!- It taked @10 minutes to walk to DTD marketplace from the BW.

I think there are several incompatible statements here.

Basically cheap and good shuttle transport just tends not to be compatible. Your more expensive hotels have better shuttles then the cheapos. (Plus I saw the bus at the Clarion SUites and there is NO way I am getting on that bus... it had to be older then I am and I am pretty old! LOL. It just looked old and run down...)

Hi!

I stayed at the Doubletree Club LBV this past May. We booked the hotel through Hotwire for $44/night. I found the place to be a great value! While it is not fancy, it was clean, decent, and had a reasonable shuttle schedule. Also, it is possible to walk to DTD from the hotel. It is about a 25 minute walk. There are also many restaurants, etc, within walking distance.

I would definitely stay there again.

Well, when is it in February? The first part of Feb. is value season the second part is Peak season.

I have read that some of the DTD hotels have their own transport, but I doubt they'd be cheaper than the All star hotels or even the moderates. Plus if they stay at WDW, they can do the dining plan and we thought that was a great value, especially for the kids -- unless you are planning on getting a hotel with a kitchen.

Do they tent-camp? They could do that at Ft Wilderness pretty cheaply AND be on the WDW bus & boat system.

It was a great price! We were very pleased.

The Sheraton Safari, which is across the street and down the road a bit, looked nice too. They used the same shuttle as our hotel. The Sheraton can also be found on Priceline or Hotwire very reasonably.

I should also note that the buses were just as nice as the buses Disney uses.

hi,
thx for all the replys! second week of feb and they are non disney loving family members(i know non disney family members, they can't be related to me?)anyway they refuse to listen to my advice and stay at a value.they say disney resorts are over priced and stuffy and there all the same disney owned or not.i swear i'm gonna have a stroke trying to explain to them what the difference is.they rather pay more off site i think???so i leaving it as find your own hotel!but i will try to help them.thanks for everones help!!

if you are visiting when they are - just bring them by (if you can) either Pop Century or the All stars.

they just might change their tune.

OKW has studios, 1, 2 or 3 bedroom - you can rent from Disney or a DVC member.

OKW is about as lay back as Disney gets. Much more pleasant than the DD hotels.

disney will charge you $259 in 2005, $269 in 2006 plus tax - so with tax $289 and $300 per night.

a dvc member same studio will charge you around $80 (value season) Sun-thurs, $200 fri/sat.

I have a three bedroom/three bath, Town Home, with a splash pool (opted out on the heat for the pool) rented for $69 per night, for five nights, no cleaning fee in early Dec at Windsor Palms. Less than 3 miles from the World. They do have transportation but I have not looked into it because we will have a car. I would think the Feb rates would compare.

I found it at http://www.orlandosecret.com
