I am trying to plan a vacation for my family (ds 12, ds 8) on the New Jersey Shore. Does anyone know a good place? and if so, any good motels/hotels?

Thanks!:)

I think Cape May is pretty family friendly, but I can't help you with hotels (when I visited I stayed with family a bit further north).

Love Ocean City, NJ. Lots of inexpensive hotels. Impala Island Inn is one we stay at fairly frequently. You can walk to everything. There are rides on tehe boardwalk and the beach is beautiful. It is a fairly short drive to Cape May as well.

You can google Ocean City NJ Accommodations and a whole list will come up. My children love it there!

Wildwood Crest is very quiet and family friendly. Great beaches. You do have to walk out far to get to deep water. The next town over is Wildwood and they have a great boardwalk, but it can be loud.

are you looking for this summer or next? it may be hard to find a place for this summer.

We just took a trip out east and spent one day at Sea Isle City, NJ. It had a nice beach and wasn't all touristy. We only drove in for the day, though, so I can't help out with hotels, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed it!!

The Wildwoods, with Wildwood Crest being the quietest. Wildwood has a massive boardwalk with more rides than disneyland. The beaches in all 3 Wildwood towns don't require beach tags, so they are free and they are huge so there's always plenty of room to lay out your stuff and not be on top of the next person.

My mom's family helped settle Wildwood when North Wildwood was still called Angelsea, the house my great great grandfather built is still on 5th Ave, sadly it's no longer in the family, but I digress.

The wildwoods are known for their 50's kich and doo-wop and the fake palm tree is the official tree. Plus you can drive 15 mins over to pricier Cape May and spend time there too.

I also vote for Ocean City! It's small, nice boardwalk and dry island (no drunk college kids). I have no ideas on hotels we always rent a house.

Thanks everyone for all of your help. I was hoping to go sometime in August!
(fingers crossed)

Where are you travelling from? That could make a difference from how far up/down the shore line you want to go.

No one here mentioned Seaside Park, which is just south of Seaside Heights.:scared1: It's nothing like you see on those horrible Jersey shows. Seaside Park is extremely family-oriented and the boardwalk in Seaside Heights is big and fabulous.

Seaside Heights.. Don't let the fact that Jersey Shore is filmed there dissuade you from going. They have a nice boardwalk with amusement parks on either end and the beach is the nicest I've seen anywhere else on the shore.. You need a pass to get on it so it's not trashy or anything.. Oh, and they have these AMAZING deep fried peanut butter/nutella/marshmallow sandwich..OMG so good! Have fun.. We just got back a few weeks ago.

There was plenty of availability the last time I checked. How much do you want to pay for accommodations? There were even plenty of houses to rent. I believe I was looking through Berger Realty. ANother poster gave you the OC chamber website. I use that a lot. As someone mentioned, it is a dry town so if you want alcohol you have to purchase it prior to arriving in OC. LOVE that place. Still thinking of Labor Day weekend.

The FOrum Inn also gets good reviews.

Are you going for a full week, or just a weekend?

I'm not a "shore" gal (I prefer the Chesapeake Bay), but DH's family goes often, and their favorite places are Sea Isle City (just south of the promanade) or North Wildwood (usually north of the boardwalk). They usually rent for a full week, and we bring food with us (but eat takeout some nights). Surprisingly enough, I like both! I love Cape May, but there really isn't as much to do other than shop.

I've only stayed in the Wildwoods, but have visited the other beaches mentioned for day trips.
Hotels I've stayed in: Aqua Beach, Adventurer & Water's Edge. Only some rooms at Water's Edge have been through the recent remodel, and those are more condo style. We were in a 2-bedroom with full kitchen. All 3 of these are right on the beach (still at least a 5-minute walk across street and thru sand to water). They are at the far end of the Boardwalk (I think it's the south end).

While I wouldn't rave about any of these hotels, we either have or would consider going back for another stay. They are clean and have basic amenities. None of these are kitschy or themed like some of the other nearby options. The biggest plus is the location.
