I'm in Columbus, MS. We have Kroger and Southern Family Market (formerly Winn-Dixie).
But almost all the towns with more than about 10,000 people have Wal-Mart Supercenters. I would suspect that's where most people shop here. I shop at the commissary on the military base.
If I'm not mistaken, Winn-Dixie hasn't completely pulled out of Mississippi. you can go to their website at www.winndixie.com and enter the city and state to see if there is still one in the town you're looking for.
I know there are some Alberson's down in Jackson. There used to be Jitney Jungle, but I think they've completely closed down (not sure though). I also think there's one called Sav-A-Lot (or something like that). We're in a rural area with no chains.
There's a Piggly Wiggly in New Hope. And weren't there Sunshine or Sunflower something near the high school or midde school? Winn-Dixie was the one next to Kmart, right?
We did the majority of our (off-base) food shopping in Mississippi (and Oklahoma) in Walmart.
