Ive seen people ask some medical questions before and ask for prayers, so i hope i am not out of line in asking this,,if i am, im sorry!

I just had a mole removed yesterday and am in a lot of pain..i didnt realize it was going to hurt so much the day after..i was wondering if anyone else had this done and if they were in a lot of pain afterwards?

thanks everyone..and if you dont mind, please say some prayers that the results dont indicate any cancer..thank you

Out of line? Here? Heck no. :) Best wishes for you, Jen, and a prayer too. I bet all will be well and you will feel so much better tomorrow and in a day or two, not even know you had it done. Good prevention on your part, good for you. and just think, a few weeks and you will be enjoying WDW at CBR with your friend!!! ::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo :wave2:

I've have several removed. Some were nothing, one was melanoma cancer and others basil cancer. Caught them in time though. Hurt like heck after though, but beats the alternative. I shake my head at posts about "I'm not dark enough". Prayers to you.

thank you guys for all the help...i just didnt know it would hurt sooo bad !! i will find out results on april 5..hopefully..so thanks everyone...i guess i just might be being paranoid

I have an appointment to get a mole checked out next week. It is normal color and shape but it crusts over sometimes and is smooth sometimes. It also gives me a "buzzing" sensation if that makes sense. So after looking up some stuff on the web I think it may be pre-cancerous so it is going bye-bye. Good to know it is going to hurt! Owie!

Mosmom--Goodluck with yours...are you getting it just scraped or entirely removed?

See im a wimp about pain!! ive had a few surgeries since i was 8,,and im 19 now..so you would think id be used to it!

so thanks again :)

I've had so many removed and yes it hurts!!
I've actually had to have some removed and then some that required further minor surgery (icky stitches) to remove the areas around the moles. Each time I get nervous about the results, so I know where you're coming from. Sending you positive thoughts!
Keep us posted!

I have had several removed> I was also surprised that it hurt as much as it did. I felt better in a few days and everything was fine. Hope you feel better soon
Tara

I have had a few removed...three, I think. One of them sort of hurt the next day (I think they dug pretty deep!) All of them turned out to be NOTHING. I hope that yours turns out to be nothing, too.

Please remember to wear sunscreen!

I had one removed that was suspicious, and it did hurt, and I was scared, too, waiting for the results.

{{{HUGS}}} to you. I hope you feel better soon, and that you get good results!

I had 3 removed on my back at one time last October. They did hurt after, but I hate the shots more!

I have an appointment with a new Derm. in 2 weeks to get the rest of my body checked out. The first Derm. just looked at the ones I pointed out and said those need to come off and didn't even offer to look at the rest of me! I am a very moley person. It runs in my family. :)

Oh-and all of mine were fine. :)

I've had two removed, one wth further biopsy. Yes, they were uncomfortable for a few days especially the deeper biopsy on my ankle.

The waiting for the result is awful. I wish you good news.

thanks so much everyone..im just freaking out..they took like a month for me to get the first results, then decided to do another biopsy (with the stitches ..which i hate!!) but now i wait till hopefully april 5, which is when i get the stitches out, they said they hope they will have the results then..thank u so much for replying

I had a flat mole removed from my belly a couple of months ago. It seemed to be getting darker, though perfectly circular.

The dr removed it in less than a minute, it was "scraped off" and it was a little uncomfortable for the next few days, but I don't remember any pain really..

The results he gave me were "moderate atypia" which I took to mean't it wasn't cancerous, but it had the potential to turn that way.

I'm hoping it's nothing for you either and remember, if things like this are caught early, you'll be fine :D

Dr Nazario Rocks! She removed a mole from my stomach, and I have to say I didn't think it hurt very bad, but I was pregnant at the time and Morning sickness ruled my life! My sister just had one removed yesterday from her back and she is not having much pain either. The moral to this story is to go to Kansas City to have your moles removed!

Oh and Blue eyes, you WILL be fine- I just heard the pixie dust come out of Tinks wand!

thanks so much..i really appreciate all your help..i was sorta scared about posting since i havent been on here long, but the flipping out sorta made me :) But im so glad i did,,,bc now i feel a little bit better....
the dr said she thinks its very possible to have melanoma ..so my question is..do they do chemo or rad for that type of cancer? thanks

Hi there! I am sorry that you are going through this nightmare! I've only had one mole removed (on the bottom of my foot OUCH!) and it was OK. On our way to WDW in Dec 2001 I told DH his mole looked a little funny - we should get it checked when we get back. He had a punch biopsy on my birthday (jan 7) and a week later we got the call -- malignant melanoma! He had it removed by a plastic surgeon in our area that specializes in this. He has a big scar behind his right ear (2 1/2" long x 3/4" wide). It was a fairly large mole and the margins (end of the area they removed) from the biopsy were not clear (meaning cancer all the way through), so they took out alot to make sure they got it all (which, thankfully, they did). The scar is far better than the alternative...
You asked about chemo and rad for melanoma. First, it will depend on how deep/what stage yours is. DH was boarderline level II, meaning it was pretty deep, but since it had not spread, it technically was not a II. If it is melanoma, they will probably start running all kinds of test (CAT scans, blood work, etc) to try to see if it has spread to the lymph. We all but demanded a PET scan, since the mole was very near a cluster of lymph nodes. If you can get your insurance to cover it, a PET may save you from having to have lymph nodes removed. The PET scan is done with a special sugar that makes cancer cells light up like Christmas on the scans (or so the tech told us!). You will probably be sent to an oncologist for a consultation too. Our oncologist recommended AGAINST chemo, since it makes many people so ill that they do not complete it and it only helps in about 50% of cases. He agreed with us for the PET scan too. Again, it will depend on just how deep/what level the melanoma is. Also, you may be under care for the next five years after removal, so they can monitor you (usually 2 - 4 times a year) and make sure it doesn't pop up elsewhere.

I am not trying to scare you, I just thought I'd share some of what we went throught. Some will try to "protect" you by sugarcoating things, but I believe one should know whats going on -- the good and the bad.
I will be praying for you that all is well and will go smoothly. Please feel free to contact me at anytime if you have any questions or just need to vent.

Best wishes and healing thoughts,
Kathleen

I've had a few removed and the way they are removed is based on what kind they are. I've had a plastic surgeon remove a couple on my face. The Derm scraped a couple off here and there.
I've had biopsies done on every one of them. Here, they automatically do that. And all were fine.
Some hurt, some didn't.

The surgery was stressful and they hurt a lot.
