Anyone in here decorate cakes?

I've done a Bailey's cake before! Well, the filling & icing had Bailey's in it anyway...It was yummy!!

Does anyone have a recipe for a mojito cake? I need a recipe and can't seem to find one...was hoping to find something using a cake mix for the base. Any thoughts?

My thoughts would be to start with a White cake mix and add mint extract and maybe some rum or rum extract. Sounds yummy to me!

That's kind of what I was thinking. I thought to use the white cake mix, some limeade, a shot of rum, and chop up some fresh mint to throw in there. I'm going to try it out this weekend to see how it tastes...i'll let you know!

Luau Cake: Bailey's Irish Cream Cake, iced in buttercream covered in Fondant. This was not the neatest cake that I've done ...but....I waited too long to do it. Its a gift for the bride and groom that are having a Luau tonight. Eh, its ok.

Let me know how it turns out...I wouldn't have done fresh mint because it is a cake...but it sounds yummy!

Ok so I was just emailed this website by one of my students. cakewrecks.com

It is pretty funny. That is until I started going through the archives and noticed a familar cake....one done by our very own Mo'sMom. Did you know about this?

While some of those cakes deserve an honorable mention, I think that site is apalling. I'm finding myself skimming through it to see if any of my cakes are "featured"! It's sites like that that make me nervous about putting any of my cakes out there...:(

I know that we put our hearts and souls into some of the cakes that we do and to have anyone "bash" them just breaks my heart...

Lovely anniversary cake Disneynutbsv!

Thanks Scarlett!

Here is the grooms cake..its a Dune buggy. His license plate says: Mr-JH

His future wife's plate says: Mrs-MH (M for Matt, J for Jamie, lol)

So......my dog ate the dune buggy cake. He climbed up on a chair to get to the table. We have a pub set table and chairs just for this reason:( So here it is 8:34 and I'm waiting for the next one to get out of the oven. I'm so disappointed. I honestly don't have time for this. I'm also supposed to be helping do hair at this wedding. I am so glad there are two other hair stylists there and this is for my employee!!!

Plus due to the short time period I'm doing it in fondant. I just don't have time to decorate it.

Haha I just saw myself on cakewrecks. That used to be a picture of a really awful looking baby bum cake and I guess had to take it down so replaced it with mine. I emailed her and asked her to take it down. If she doesn't, we'll see. The ironic thing is, I just got a call on Friday from someone in California wanting me to do that cake and ship it to them in CA via FedEx. Guess it can't be too bad.

So sorry to read that your dog ate the dune buggy cake! I'm sure the fondant one came out fabulously. Is your dog ok? I can't imagine that much blue frosting is sitting pretty with the pup.

Okay maybe I should ask this question here , I am a florist and my sister does wedding cakes. DS is getting married FDIL wants us to put a cascasde of fresh flowers down the side of the cake. I have made arrangements that go on top in fresh flowers before but always in a container. Putting fresh down the side of 5 layers makes me nervous b/c I would use the cake like oasis and just stick in the flowers but I am afraid of pesticide that might be on them. If you have done this ...do you wrap the flowers? We are talking of several dozen fresh flowers and filler and greens. In a perfect world I would just stick them in but I do not want to poison the guests. Then again I would be wrapping a ton of flowers in green or white tape. My only other alternative is to make a hand tied swag(oh god the time involved and seeing as I am the mother of the groom when do I get ready) and just place it on the cake. I am also doing the wedding flowers and the centerpieces.

Did she reply? The pictures down but I find the whole blog to be a bit ummmm, rude.

I posted this on your other thread, but just in case you look here first, here it is again:

The other thing you can do is slip in soda straws cut the length of the flower stem. This serves three purposes: 1.)supports the flower to keep it from slipping, 2.)protects the cake from anything that might be on the flower stem, and 3.)is much less time consuming then wrapping the stems.

I believe Wilton sells "plastic flower thingys" for this purpose, but straws are cheap and easy to work with. I don't do a whole lot of cakes with flowers, but I use the straws when I'm doing decorations on wires. It serves the same purpose to protect the cake from something inedible.

http://www.cakecentral.com is a great place to go with cake decorating questions.

Wow. You guys are amazing. I have never seen so many awesome cakes in one place :)
I have a question for those of you who work with fondant. Can you freeze the cake after you´ve put the fondant on? If yes, how do you thaw them again?

I've never done that before, so I'm not sure....
