Hi! I may be travelling to Montgomery for work and wanted to know what locals would recommend as far as restaurants, things to do, etc...

I've only been through Alabama once, many years ago, and we stopped in Boaz and Huntsville, so I am clueless about Montgomery!

Thanks for any info!

Shogun is fun and the Macaroni Grill is great. If you go there, try for Daniel's section....:D

Any idea what side of town you are staying on? I can give you names of the best eateries and malls/shopping centers around there if you do. If you are staying on the east side around the East Blvd. area, there are a LOT of eateries there, for about two miles or so. (restaurant row!):). They start at the Outback and Lonestar and Cracker Barrel north and then going further south, Up the Creek, a new barbeque place (can't remember the name right now drat it), Olive Garden and O'Charleys, then toward the most Southern end of the East Blvd, TGIFs, Romas, another great, but expensive one that I can't remember either:), and Macaroni Grill and Longhorn. And, that doesn't include all of the fast food eateries and such.
Oh almost forgot there is also the Shakespear Theater just off of the East Blvd. also.
Have fun here when you get here. Even despite the work.:)

P.S. just ask if you have further questions......

I'll be up by the mall. Was wondering what the local specialty was (crabcakes here) and what non-chain places there are. I live in a town with so many chain restaurants it's scary...but that's what happens when you have two interstates come through town!

Hmmm, they're aren't too many local specialties up by Eastdale Mall (if that is the one you're talking about), but on Atlanta Hwy (which runs E/W) and which Eastdale Mall is on, back to the West of the East Blvd. there is a new Italian Place locally owned. Haven't tried it yet, but the parent company here has always been good.
Also on Vaughn Rd, which is about halfway down the East Blvd, going E/W also, but on the East side this time:), there are some new local eateries down it. Gators and Sinclairs are two that I can think of right now. Gators is right on the intersection, and Sinclairs is about another major intersection east on Vaughn Rd. Corner of Bell and Vaughn.
It seems that most of the 'local' type eateries are really located more in the older more central part of the city, several near where I work (the old Cloverdale section).
Good luck on your trip.
Kim
