Thanks
Ted

Hi Ted,
I am Brazilian, lived there for 23 years until 2001 when I immigrated to Canada.

Although I go there almost every year, my home city in in the Northeast of Brazil (beautiful place called Fortaleza) and I have never been to Brasilia or Belo Horizonte.

Sao Paulo is huge. Think of Sao Paulo is the New york from South America. Lots of traffic, business, entertainment. There are no beaches in the city of Sao Paulo, only in the state. Very good food from all over the world. It will have something for you to do, depending on your interest.

Brasilia is the federal capital of Brazil. Not a lot to do there, other than visiting the places where the poilitician and the Brazilian president works. It was completely planned and developed in the fifties. No beaches around Brasilia.

Belo Horizonte is a beautiful city. Again, no beaches around, but lot of historical cities close by. The citiy is surrounded by mountains. The food is very good as well.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to send me a PM or reply here and I'll try to help.

Unfortunately as I haven't been to these particular cities (Brazil is a huge country), I can't help much myself but can ask friends, if needed.

Camilo

Thanks Camilo, after I get through Xmas, I will PM you with questions! Thanks :thumbsup2

Never been to Brazil! Just wanted to wish you safe travels!
Enjoy your March AKL stay. We stayed 12 nights last August and loved it. I heard not long after we left they added a new night vision tour of the savannas, in the safari trucks. Sounds cool. We also enjoyed the evening Cultural Safari talks in the Sunset Room.

I used to travel to Sau Paulo ever week (fly out of Toronto on Sunday and fly hom on Thursday).

The customs lines are LONG -- be prepared.

I tried to keep some small bills handy to give to the kids who will be begging but dont be too generous --

My BFF tagged along on her DH's, 2 week, business trip to Sao Paulo last summer. His company always provides 4 star or better accomodation. The hotel they were in was about a block away the worst part of town. She said the one thing to know is "Be careful". One morning while they were there some bad guys came into the hotel and took hostages....she said it had something to do with the local drug lord.

She also said that it was a beautiful city and country with lots of really nice people. Just like any place that is foreign to you, you must take care.

I am suppose to go in July. I need a Visa to go, and I would have to mail my passport to Montreal to get the visa. Or travel to Montreal. I am not extremely comfortable mailing my signed and valid passport away in the mail. :confused3 But I'm not so sure I can afford to travel to Montreal either. And since I'm a teacher, I would need to take time off without pay to do it, so that makes it doubly expensive!
