I have sold books on both Amazon and Ebay. I found Amazon to be a little easier because the buyer makes payment right away. There is no waiting involved. I have had success both places. Not much of an answer, but good luck! I have had moderate success both places. Happy selling!
I sell on Amazon and Half.com. I prefer Half.com. Their fees are less. Amazon charges .99 plus commission when the item is sold. Half.com only charges commission. I find that books don't sell very well on ebay. I will list books in both places (however I won't list any books on Amazon for less than $2.00).
Some people have books on Amazon for .01. I don't see how they can make money because Amazon charges .99 when it's sold.
I also list books at a place called halfvalues.com but I haven't sold anything there yet. I don't think anyone knows they are there.
I like to sell books and DVDs on Amazon. There fees are higher than eBay, but I can usually get a MUCH higher price. DVDs especially go quick there. I look up what I want to sell and then usually price as the lowest or equal to the lowest if mine is in the same condition. Amazon gives you $ to mail via media mail, and you can transfer the funds to your bank account any time (I'm pretty sure). I've sold books and DVDs on there and I'm positive I got at least twice as much as I would have on eBay.
If you buy new releases and read them fast they're great to resell on Amazon, then it's almost like you're renting them! But if you hold onto them too long, like someone said - there's people on there selling for a penny. The only thing I can figure is they're making some money on the shipping end of it.
That's why I like to sell on Amazon, even though it costs more it's easier to list and I can sell for more. Hope that helps!
Amazon is a good place to sell books with ISBN's, provided there aren't too many copies of your particular title listed already. Listing about mid-range in the pricing has worked okay for me.
Common books do not sell well on Ebay. You can do well with books that are harder to find, especially those that are pre-ISBN..but still not make as much as on the fixed-price venues--however one can often sell such books faster on Ebay (fast nickel Vs slow dime).
More important than scarcity is desirability. Optimally, you will want to find and list books that have both qualities.
I suggest going to the booksellers board on Ebay for some hints and tips. There are permanent threads to the right where you can learn quite a bit. Also check out the thread "Ask any question about any book." If you are serious aboput bookselling, pay close attention to everything Satnrose says. He is the master.
I sell books on Amazon.com and eBay. I usually don't sell individual books on eBay, just lots. I have been selling for about 2 years now as a "Professional" seller on Amazon. Instead of paying 0.99 per book sale to Amazon, I pay $40 per month that covers all sales. I sell with a friend and we sell a lot more than 40 books per month. I just packed up 30 books today from the previous weekend alone!
