Anyone here own other timeshare besides DVC?

We own at the Hyatt in Tahoe. We love our DVC and are in the process of buying more resale points at VGC. But the Hyatt is more flexible and useful and although it was not cheap (even resale), it is way more economical for us than DVC.

even resale buyers got that option if they enroll in the new program, albeit at a higher price if ANY of the weeks they convert are resale even if part are retail.

Also, let me add additional info to what you posted regarding the II internal trading preference. Traditionally many have understood that if II had it and a Marriott owner wanted it (and there was not another MVCI owner with higher preference ahead of them); that a Marriott owner was assured of getting the week on deposit with II. This is incorrect because trade power also comes into to play. One must have BOTH sufficient trade power and the internal trading preference to get the trade. It's common that a Marriott owner with a lowly week will be searching for another Marriott, the very thing they're searching for gets deposited and II passes them over due to lack of sufficient trade power and the week goes to a non Marriott owner. Once you get to 60 days out, this tends to go away.

Agree, Interval seems to be a black hole of understanding. My friend got picked up resale in New Orleans from a little known timeshare club, trades fantastic, so go figure, it's all a game. But the bottom line is if you want to pick up the phone and go someware, it's best to have your home resort there.

The problem is you can't own everywhere so it helps to understand much of this upfront and plan accordingly but with the principle that things change over time so you're always chasing your tail.

By divine intervention, or just good luck, we bought DVC and kept adding on, then with a DVC trade...got MVCI Ko Olina and we've been going to Hawaii every year for 30 years..we bought there a EV week, then another EV week, then bought mvci EV Branson's tarnished - silver week for fun. For us this will work great in retirement keeping warm escaping the cold NE weather, it's not a large plan, might not work good for anyone else, but we like it. I liked thought about chasing the tail....for us if we never went beyond Hawaii and Disney, we're happy. But the poor guy that got sold that he has something great and the world is his....feel sorry because simply it's not all that easy. But with the new very expencive mvci point's they have a better chance, but it might not be the most cost effective way to do it.

We own also on Sanibel Island(Fixed week). (Not owned by Hilton, but Hilton manages it.) Have owned since the late 70's. Usually the whole family goes down their and Disney each year. Finally wanted to take some extra vacations at different times of the year and decieded to buy in at DVC. Already looking to maybe add onto DVC.

Diamond Resorts Royal Palm Beach Club in St Maarten. Fixed week 45. We go every November and love it!

We just bought a ts in Virginia beach fixed week 20 at four sails its a small resort but sounds very nice we are looking forward to our first trip there.

We love DVC

We own DVC 175 pts. at SSR. We also own one week non-fixed at Sheraton Vistana Villages in Orlando. We like the Sheraton system as there are several places to trade our week into such as Arizona or we can also trade using II. We love the II getaways, somereally cheap short stay up to one week deals around the country. We stayed a week in Las Vegas in a one bedroom for $54.00 per night. We also get accesss to the Sheraton Starpoints system which can be used for hotels around the world. :thumbsup2

We stumbled upon timesharing in 1984 when we took our kids on a trip to Disney World. When we returned home to Canada, we sought out local timeshares, and found one not too far from home - Deerhurst Resort. We bought a week there in 1985, followed by three resales almost twenty years later, which we use mainly for trading. In 1992, we bought at OKW, and at HH in 1996. We bought two weeks at Marriott's Barony Beach Club in 1997, which we use to trade to other Marriotts.
We would never trade our Disney points. There were few comparable trades with II, and even less with RCI.
We were able to trade into DVC when it was affilliated with II.
We were very sad to lose that option when DVC left II.

We also own at Marriott Vacation Club -- Canyon Villas (Phoenix) and Shadow Ridge (Palm Desert) as opposing EOY contracts and Cypress Harbour (Orlando) EY.

We bought Marriott for non-Disney holidays.

We seriously considered Marriott but then backed out for several reasons. If you want (or NEED) to sell that vacation club you are restricted on your resale and you basically don't get anything out of it. At least with Disney you can sell your ownership for whatever the market will bear.

i don't think marriott's ROFR is much different from DVC's ROFR...and neither is doing much of that at this point. ROFR only affects the buyer...the seller in either system can sell for whatever the market will bear.

marriott's resales might be taking a small hit right now since their resales can't participate in their points system, but that's about it...

We own at Tree Tops Resort in Gatlinburg! We(our family) were always going in December and getting 2 hotel rooms. After some discussion, we decided to buy a timeshare and we found a great deal on a 2 bedroom with living room, full kitchen 2 baths and best of all a gas fireplace!!

Amen!! We own everyother year at Grand Timber Lodge in Breckenridge. We mainly use this to trade and pick up long weekends at owners rates when we want a mountain escape which works great for us (we are in Denver). Have traded to many locations including Hawaii, but used to use this contract to trade to WDW when we were bringing family or friends to preserve our DVC points. Really miss the DVC - II trade opportunity!!

Oh yes I got stuck with Westgate :headache:......never again

lol..I also got stuck with westgate. I advise never to buy anywhere but Disney - it's the only one that retains it's value..the others become worthless as soon as you sign the papers...
