The D70 and D70s are identical is size and weight. I have the D70. My old film camera was just as heavy but not quite as bulky but I think the D70 is easier to hold than my older film camera. It's a tough call to carry that around like at WDW. I'll be doing it this coming Oct. I was thinking of getting a smaller more pocket-able camera (my GF can carry it!!) for some pics on rides and such. In fact, I plan on getting a large (80-400) zoom lens.
There are some non DSLRs out there that take pretty decent pics and are much more manageable than the D70 (and competition). If I didn't have the D70, I would be looking at something like the Canon IS2 (I think that's the model number). 5mp, 10x stabilized zoom.
If you wanted to reduce the weight and carry less around, you might want to skip the kit lens (18-70) and get an aftermarket lens like the Sigma 18-200 instead. It's about the same price as the kit lens but has a much longer zoom.
