how was it for him/her? Any other bigger rides your 4 year old went on? Please share some stories! We are going when my son will be 3.9, I am debating whether or not he is ready. He still feels too young for me. He will be around 42 inches at the time.

When my oldest DD was 3 (and tall enough) I took her on Splash, BTMR, TofT, pretty much everything she was tall enough for and she wanted to go again and again. I just tell her to close her eyes if she was scared and she was fine. As she has gotten a little older she doesn't always want to go on the rides anymore. I usually try to get my kids to try them once and if they don't like it, that fine. Now my 4yo I can't get on goofy's barnstormer but once and that is almost torture. It probably doesn't help that her big sis keeps telling her they are scary.

My DD was 4yrs 1mo old when she went on Splash Mountain, and she loved it! She was 5yrs 1 mo when she went on Expedition Everest last Nov, and if you ask her what her favorite ride is...thats it. She LOVED EE. If you son isn't afraid of the drop and wants to try it, I'd say let him try. The only rides I haven't brought DD on that she technically could ride are Mission Space, Tower of Terror, and Space Mountain (this one ONLY because I can't sit next to her).

My DS was just about the same age as yours when we went to WDW for the first time. My husband took him on Splash Mountain. He didn't freak out or anything, but when they got done he said to my DH, "I like the boat ride with the dancers." (Meaning It's a Small World.) :-) Every time he sees the pictures of himself on Splash Mountain he reminds me that he didn't like the waterfall ride. :-)

But like I said, there was no freak out. Just didn't like it. :-) I hope we can turn him into a "big ride" kid before too long! His little sis is quite a daredevil and he will have to keep up with her. :-)

Best of luck!

My DS-7 has always been very tall for his age. He was able to ride most of the big rides when he was 3. The only one we didn't let him ride was ToT and I sort of regret it now. He really wanted to go on it but we kept saying "maybe next time". I thought he wouldn't be ready for it and was wondering if he would develop a fear of real elevators :lmao:

He's a daredevil & loves all the thrill rides...except he now has a fear of ToT! I know he would love it, especially all the other special effects but he refuses to try it. It just kind of stuck with him that it was something he "should" avoid.

Anyway, we started him off small and worked up to the bigger rides. Barnstormer first, then Splash, than BTMRR etc. He did great and we had to ride them all multiple times.....and still do.

Two years ago we took our 3.5 year old daughter for the first time. She rode Big Thunder first and then Splash. She though Splash was "boring" and after that just wanted to ride Big Thunder over and over again. Last year, she rode Big Thunder 5 times in a row one morning before we could persuade her to get on Splash. Then Splash was just "ok" but not fast enough.

DD turned 4 on May 2nd and took her first Splash ride on May 20th. She LOVED this ride and would have thought the ideal vacation would be spent in Frontierland going between Splash and Big Thunder. I didn't talk about the ride at all leading up to it. I just let her take it all in and make her own decisions and I think that worked best for her. She wasn't frightened and loved it. She still talks about SM every day.

My DD (just over 4) hated it - she loves to swim and go to water parks but got really upset when she got splashed on at the start of the ride. She cried for the 1st half of the ride :sad1: I had to bribe her to stop so she didn't ruin the ride for the other family on our boat!

However, she loved test track, BTMR, etc.

My DD was 3.877432639281 years old and 42-27/32" tall her first time on Splash Mountain. :cheer2:

She loved it!

Our DD was 3 (and very tall) when she first rode splash mountain, thunder mountain. She loved it!

I would say go with your son's temperment. Sometimes, they are just not ready to go on the "big" rides yet. My DD will be tall enough to go on it this trip, but I am not sure that she will want to.

I figure I will show it to her and see what her reaction is to it. If she is interested, then we will try it. Otherwise, we can just try it another time.

My daughter was 3 and a couple of months when she first went on it - she loved it. That same trip she went on all the rides she could at 41" (including Tower of Terror), loved them all and did all the 'big' rides more than once.

Both of my DD's went on Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain this past trip. They liked both of them, but LOVED Splash Mountain - they loved seeing all the animals.

As far as Space Mountain and ToT, there is no way I'd take either of them on them, although they are tall enough. They are both afraid of the dark, and while I know they would like the "ride" part of the ride, there's no way they would be able to handle the darkness.

Came back last month from a trip with a just turned 4 year old. Splash was his favorite ride - rode about 6 times during the week.

There is nothing jerky about this ride - he did great.
