It looks as though there's a good possibilty we could be moving to the San Diego area sometime this fall. The job is located on the north side of the city- on San Vincente (sp?). Can anyone give me some good info about SD? What are some good areas to look for homes in, good school districts etc. I know absolutely nothing about this area, except that it is suppose to be absolutely gorgeous and a great place to live.

Thanks for ANY info you can pass along!

It's a beutiful area... It's also an area with a housing shortage and very high cost of living..I lived there for 16 years

So- what can you tell me about it Jenny?? I figured it would be very exensive to live there, so I've been looking on realtor.com at homes etc. They give a price range for a home instead of a solid price! I can't believe what I'm seeing, so we may end up renting! We may only be there for a short time anyway. I also did a cost of living comparison- for us to stay at our current level, my DH would have to make about $40,000 more there then he does here in Portland- don't know if that's possible, but the company did say they do a cost comparison and compensate for that.

Do you know if real estate is still on the rise there? What about good areas to live in?

North San Diego County is a bit cheaper while still very nice..Carlsbad, Leucadia and Encinitas come to mind..All 3 are on the Ocean and too my knowledge have good school systems..That is probably accurate about the 40,000 a year price increase .. It really is a place where you have to have a good income to live in a nice ,safe area without gangs and with good schools.
Oh and the Mexican food is incredible..Alberto's..Yummm

Thanks for that info Jenny- every little bit I can get helps!

Anyone else out there with some info they can give me? PLEASE :-)

Do you know exactly where you would be working, what part of San Diego?

edited because You already answered that

Encinitas, Leucadia and Carlsbad would really be on my lst of places to look seeing that your job is in North San Diego..Especially Carlsbad

My brother and SIL just moved to the San Diego area. They are building a house in San Marcos. I don't know anything about the area, but it must be nice or they wouldn't be building there.

I can't wait until their done building so that I can go out for a visit. I've been to San Diego a couple of times and thought it was beautiful.

San Marcos is nice.. It's a ways inland and probably a bit too much of a commute from San Diego itself
