The Amish say you can plant after the full moon in May. That is May 15 this year. I would love to plant sooner than Michigan's unofficial time...Memorial Day weekend. Anyone else in the north plant earlier than that weekend?

Faith, for us (in the north :)), the long Victoria Day weekend (the weekend before your Memorial Day holiday), is the traditional time to start planting.

:)

Pardon my ignorance, but do The Amish live in Michigan? If not, I wouldn't go by that saying in your area....

HI Tulirose! We do have some Amish in Michigan. Near Mt. Pleasant. In the summer they "set up" a booth near that expressway exit and sell quilts and bake goodies. Also, when we travel to Cadilac, Michigan there are Amish there. However. the Amish lady that gave my SIL the planting info was in Indiana. So you are right about the temperature difference.:D

Thanks for the info. Ya learn something new every day. The only Amish I knew of are around Lancaster, PA.

BTW - It is so miserable here in NY, that many people who usually plant on Mother's Day weekend are holding out...
