i keep getting emails from the NJ higher education student assistance authority, asking for additional information for grants and such. the first email i got i assumed was spam. over the course of several months i have gotten 3 more. i tried searching for hesaa scams and all and even checked snopes. what gives? has anyone heard of this? in all my years of college, i've never seen or heard anything about them. and no, i didn't give them any of my info.

Did you go to the website for hesaa.org? It explains all about it. It isn't a scam. It is a state agency that administers NJClass student loans, among others.
Not sure why they are sending you emails, though. My dd in college doesn't have student loans, but has gotten a number of mailings and emails from Sallie Mae. :)

Yep. Used to get an annual letter from them telling us our DD was not eligible to get her Bloustein scholarship because she was not attending a NJ college (she went out of state). Thanks, we knew that! But every year the letter arrived.

the reason you aren't finding any info on hesaa scams is because there aren't any. the emails you're getting are legit. They are from the NJ Higher Education Student Assistance Authority. In the past year or 2 they are being more aggressive in trying to match students and grants. This year I've even been hearing commercials on NJ101.5 for HESAA.

If you're still afraid of being scammed through these emails, go to hesaa.org and request/give your info directly through them.

thanks for the replies! i guess i thought it was a scam because i had never heard of them before. i did the whole college thing right after high school and now i'm finishing up my second degree 10 years after the first one. it just struck me as weird that i had never heard of them until my very last semester. :confused3
