Anyone heard of a Lifetime Pass?

Not sure where else to post this. I was talking to a friend last night & she mentioned someone she works with has a LIFETIME Pass to WDW. She got it about 25 years ago b/c she was a military wife. Has anyone ever heard of this? I'm just curious and a little (ok, a LOT ) jealous!

I have not heard of this although I think there has been mention here before of a wish of this????? If there is a lifetime pass I want to be first in line, lol!

guess I'm always the skeptic but wouldn't there be a lot of them floating around since there are an awful lot of military husbands and wives? I know no one I know in that situation has one..maybe it was something they gave to someone stationed nearby or something?? ( altough I had an uncle stationed in FL around then and never heard about it ...maybe they didn't want to make everyone jealous!)

There are lifetime passes to WDW around but not very many. They are usually reserved for things like the 1,000,000th family to visit WDW, the 5,000,000th family, etc etc. The fact that your friend's wife was a military wife would have had no bearing on whether or not she was awarded (they cannot be purchased) a lifetime pass.

I believe that the first family to enter a brand new park is usually given lifetime passes. I'm pretty sure that was the case a few years ago when we attended the Grand Opening of AK. No, we weren't first. People were camped out from the previous day to try and be picked as the first family.

Although it wasn't actually lifetime passes.....waaaaay back when, when WDW first offered onsite timeshares at OKW, the annual stay included Length of Stay passes. Sadly, that is no longer the case, but someone might have construed that to be the case.

Certain cast members of the Walt Disney Company have received lifetime passes on retirement.

These were also available for Florida Residents to buy about 20 years ago. Dare I even say it, but at the time they cost $99. (My mom still comments all the time that she should have bought them, but who knew they would do away with them??) I also remember when we could get a Florida Resident yearly pass for $69 back then too.

I try not to think about it too much or I feel myself becoming ill.

Lifetime passes (actually called Silver Passes) were never available for sale. I think you may be confusing these with the Charter AP's that were offered in 1982.

Didn't mean to make you wonder, sorry.

A Silver Pass is a lifetime pass to WDW. They cannot be purchased. They are only awarded. Most of the time they go to special visitors to WDW like the first family to enter a park when it opened or the 5 millionth person through the turnstyles. Occasionally they will be awarded under special circumstances such as to Annette Funicello (who turned 61 today! Does that make anyone feel old?).

A Charter AP was available for purchase in 1982, the first year WDW made AP's available. They could not be purchased after 1982 but can still be renewed yearly for less money than a regular AP ... BUT... there can be no lapse in the time you have the Charter AP. If you don't renew it and your expiration date goes by, your Charter AP goes bye-bye. People who currently have Charter AP's have had them continuously since 1982.

I was talking to a CM in September. He said this was his 15th year and he would be getting a lifetime pass. He can bring 4 people with him. If it is true not a bad perk. He also said he wouldn't work there just for the money, they don't make too much.

When I was there in either 2001 or 2002... I remember the Apopka Little League team either won the Little League World Series or placed second.. (vague memory of this)

They had a parade for the team at Universal studios. At the parade, they were awarded lifetime passes to Universal Studios.

Sorry, I missed this question before.

AP's were available to anyone in 1982. There wasn't even a discount for Florida residents on them back then. They weren't called Charter AP's when purchased but evolved into that when Disney decided to offer a renewal discount to people who held a valid AP in effect continously since 1982. That was then they started calling them Charter AP's.

I heard a comment on the monorail that made me laugh. A guy was talking to his wife and asked how much a lifetime pass costs. He suggested it must cost about $500. His wife looked at him like he was an idiot!

Maybe he was talking about a lifetime monorail pass??? LOL
