We were recently at WDW on the dining plan. Was it just us, our did others spend a lot of time questioning the cashiers as to what you could/could not get on the dining plan? Especially when it comes to "snacks." Do you think Disney could do a better job posting this info in each food court area?

We didn't use ours at a food court so we may not have had the same problems as you did. The only place we thought we would be confused was at Disney Quest but the cashier told us all our options and was very helpful. The first couple of times using the snack credit in the park was confusing, but we learned to look for the symbol that meant they accepted the dining plan.

Here now (killing time while someone showers!), and having the snack problem. Once at MK and once at Epcot was told water doesn't count as a snack. Pop-yes, but water, no. Ug!

Now I take the pamphlet around with me in case it happens again.
:flower:

Are there places where you grab your food first then go to a cashier to check out?

I can see that this could be a problem with using snack credits, in order to stick to the plan you might have to put things back.

At places where you order through a staff member, they can tell you what's available on the plan?

Thanks!

Small vent coming:

I think the problem is partly that people don't read the brochure and understand the plan to begin with. DH was guilty of this on our last trip, and he expected me to explain it to him step by step every time he got hungry or thirsty. We had a bit of a quarrel at MK over it because he wouldn't just read the damn brochure!!!

In addition to those people who don't understand the plan, you have people who believe the rules for snacks do not apply to them. They will drag whatever they can find up to the cashier and expect it to count as a "snack" just because they want it to! "Snacks" are clearly defined in the brochure. Most carts have eligible items tagged with the little icon. Yet there is no end to the number of people who want to know WHAT ELSE they can get for a snack. Does a T-bone steak count as a snack? Rack of lamb? Lobster tail? Kitchen sink? :headache:

To top it all off, we have CMs who do not understand the plan themselves! They disallow things that are CLEARLY stated as snacks on the plan. This is probably because all the people asking for T-bone steaks have confused them! ;)

There. I feel better now.

I know there was some questioning at our food court, they allowed some items besides the usual chip, pop, mickey bars. They allowed Beigets (small size) scoop of ice cream and the rice krispy mickey bars. The cashier had told us that we could have it for a snack one night instead of chips. It was great to have a couple of other choices.
I do think some CMs are tired of explaining the plan at TS, that is the easy one so I could see why that would annoy them, read the brochure! Dh asked if he could add the lobster, I gave him alook that could hurt! Dont get greedy and read it!

items 'clearly marked' so we just asked wherever we were if this or that counted and then went from there. It did get frustrating and it was tempting to just pay for things out of pocket, but out of principal we did not [maybe that's their PLAN].

If you wanted anything but water, pop, or rice crispy treats or cookies, it was challenging!

POP lets you get containers of grapes, large milks, juices, single pieces of fruit and the mickey mouse rice crispy ears.

We were able to get frozen popsicles and ice cream bars at parks.

Dole whips do not count, bags of peanuts that only cost $1.50 don't count [but things that cost $3.99 do, so dumb], pretzels do not count, french fries do not count [although a lot of people seem to get them], other side dishes don't count....I was afraid to ask about the turkey legs although some have been able to count these...

I think WDW should say anything under $4 or something can be considered a snack but maybe they wouldn't get you to pay out of pocket out of frustration that way! ;o)

Since I didn't ever get the snack thing down I got 10 rice crispy mouse ears to give out when we returned. They were hits!

We ended up with 8 snack credits left over (who has room for snacks after eating all the food from the meals? :rotfl2: ). We also purchased the rice crispy mouse bars for gifts when we got home, we gave them to kids who picked up our mail and paper and our nephews who live near us. Big hits! :)

I agree, there should be a price limit on the snack items- it would be much easier. :)

Sorry to sound stupid, but what brochure? I'm on the dining plan and didn't receive any brochure. Shoudl I check the Disney web site? Thanks for your patience.....

If you search the Disney site you should be able to pull up the list that tells you which restaurants participate along with a detailed description of what is and is not included on the plan.

Everyone on the Dining Plan SHOULD receive a hard copy of the brochure when they check into their resort - it is in the folder along with all of the other info. There may have been a lag over the holidays where they either ran out or were reprinting to update for '06, but we got one in October.

I do think snacks are confusing because there is no rhyme or reason to what people are allowed to get. That feeds the frenzy of "what about this, what about that?" because the CMs aren't all on the same page.

Every day there are threads on the boards about what folks consider "snacks" and those definitions are WAY beyond the Disney definition of "snack". I don't know if a flat price would solve the issue or not. I think the most expensive "snack" we got was a $3 ice cream sandwich, with the exception of stuff from the F&WF booths at Epcot. Some of those were as much as $4.25. I bet if they put a flat price on it the price point would be lower than $4.
