Anyone have this happen?

We stayed at Kidani in March, for our first DVC points stay. We originally booked a 1BR for 2 nights (38 pts/night), but then our waitlist for a studio (19 pts/night) came through about a week before the trip. As soon as the waitlist came through, 38 points were moved to holding and 38 were moved to available. I assumed the 38 moved to holding would be used by the Kidani trip; however, we are now more than a month after our trip, and the 38 pts are still showing in holding (the 38 in available are also still there). Am I missing something? We have another trip to BLT coming up in about a month, but those pts are already allocated and not showing as available.

It sounds like 76 went into holding and 38 were used by the 2 nights in the studio leaving 38 in holding.

That was initially what I thought (expected) as well; however, prior to the waitlist coming through, I had 1 point available for this UY and 0 in holding. After it came through, I had 38 pts in holding and 39 as available for this UY. Is it that the 38 in holding are the same 38 (of total 39) that are "available?"

Because your wait list came through less than 30 days, all those points from the 1 BR reservation went to holding, like they are suppose to. Then the studio use 38 points from holding for your stay, with 38 still in holding. You should NOT wait list beyond 30 days when you require less points for the wait list unit than you are 'giving up'.

Right, understood regarding waitlist and less pts--though we have another trip this UY--the one in about a month--so I wasn't worried about that....which has led me to figure out what happened (I think! :)). The 38 pts currently showing as holding are going to be applied to the BLT stay in May. Given that, the 38 pts that had originally been allocated to that stay have been moved back to available. Is this correct?

I think you're still confused. If you have any points listed, then they are not applied to any current reservation.

To use "holding" points, you must make the reservation within 60 days of check in. At that point, the holding points will disappear because they are allocated for that reservation.

The holding points will NOT automatically replace already booked reservations. The unit at BLT will need to be available, as a new reservation, within the 60 holding requirement. If it is available, then you can call and have MS reallocate the points.

Hmm, ok, then my new question is this: where did the 38 pts that became "available" upon the waitlist coming through come from? Prior to the waitlist coming through, we had 1 point available; after, we had 39. Ideas?

I believe the "available" points on your dashboard include points in holding status. None of your points should have been returned as "regular" points.

Make sure they didn't borrow for the wait list reservation.

Supersnoop is correct! When I checked pts available to bank, the 38 were not available--so they were showing in both holding and available categories. I contacted MS, explained my newbie status and that, while I had understood that the 38 pts would go to holding, I had not understood that they would not be automatically applied to my upcoming reservation. The MS rep was kind enough to apply the holding pts to my upcoming stay at BLT. :) Unfortunately, we were already using 99 banked points, so we will still end up with 14 points expiring at the end of this UY if we don't use them, but 14 is better than 38, and of course, those 14 area also unrestricted btwn now and the end of our UY. MS and this board to the rescue! Thank you all for the info and being patient with my lack of understanding!
