When my husband said, let's get our oldest son into the kart racing I had NO idea how detailed it was! This is like a mini race team with a one man pit crew!

We start Saturday night since we finally have everything and all our money spent.

Anyone else do this? We're excited but as "Mom", I am a little scared too.

Sorry I have no words of advice but please update on your first race. My DD6 wants to start off with sopabox derby cars and I am scared about it too. She wants to be a racer.

I will let you know. We're in the process of getting stickers done for the car. Trying to get sponsers, etc. DS10, he just wants to race.

Well we have the first race under our belts now. It was an experience. First, our car wasn't set up right for this particular track and we didn't realize that till late in the night. It was a learning experience for us all. DS did very well. He hit the wall once, heart stopper for mom. He pulled it out beautifully. His car was pushing so it was hard for him to keep it under control, but he did. He avoided several wrecks. One kid in his class broke his arm in several places when another car ran into him. Scary.

Overall it was a fun thing to watch (if you like car races). BUT we were frustrated with this track. They started over an hour late and they were very disorganized. We ended up leaving at 1 AM (with a 2 hour drive home). The 4 yo to 7 yo class didn't end their races untill midnight!!!!! If we would have stayed, DS10 would not have run his last race until 3 AM or later. No way. I love giving my son his dream but that is too late. I think that is foolish they were running that late. I asked my DH if I was just being a "Mom" and he said no...that was too late. We run the track we'll be at normally in 2 weeks. We might have stayed Saturday night (since we got that far) except my dad, my brother in law and nephew (7 yo) were with us and they needed to get back. Had we stayed we predicted we would have gotten home at 7 AM. Next year, if we run this memorial race, we'll camp somwhere close.

This is going to be a huge learning year for us and DS. DH feels he'll win a feature before the end of the season.

Ya know, it's a great feeling giving your kid his dream. I'm still scared, guess that won't go away.

I kept his pit band and driver band....maybe one day you'll see it in the NASCAR museum ;) :cheer2:

Glad to hear he had a good time. We just started looking for karts now instead for both kids.

My DH raced Superkarts for several years, so feel free to PM me if you need any tips or help and I can forward your questions on to him.

My DD who will be 7 next week currently races quarter midgets. I know how nervous I get during each one of her races. They need to hand out "racing mommy medication"! ;)
