They are only available at tree farms and cost $30. I wanted to know if they really work before I buy. The box says "no screwing in" and "stands straight every time." They also hold a lot of water which would be nice.

I think ours is swivel straight maybe? Anyway we purchased it at a True Value hardware store. I know if was $30ish about 8 years ago. Totally worth it. Ours works this way: there is a large cup that goes over the base of the tree, it is probably 6 inches deep so make sure to leave room on the trunk when you cut it or check that when you buy the tree. The cup does screw in but you don't have to make it perfect. The cup sits in the base of the stand and you use your foot to press a lever on the stand, swivel the tree straight, release lever and voila, straight standing tree. We fill our tree with an empty wine bottle ;) (the long neck is easier than a pitcher);). I know the stand when filling holds not quite three bottle worth of water.

The base is bigger than typical but it works so well to me it is worth it. we have had some pretty crooked trees stand straight thanks to this

That's the one with the center peg, isn't it? We have that type and absolutely love it, but there is one downside... if you go to a farm that doesn't sell the stands or buy a pre-cut tree off a lot they generally don't do the drilling. For us that's no big deal - DH bought the right sized drill bit and we do it ourselves - but it might be annoying if you aren't prepared to have to do the drilling if you change where you get your tree.

We've been using one for 4 or 5 years. Love it!

Here's one stand like this poster is describing: http://www.target.com/p/pivot-point-tree-stand/-/A-14715678

I have this one. I've had it for probably 15-20 years now, maybe even longer (boy do I feel old having figured that out!). I love it - I am a single parent and have to get the tree into the stand basically by myself every year. This stand makes it as easy as it can be. I see reviews by people saying that their trees fall over, but I've NEVER had that problem. Our tree is generally in the 6-7 foot range though, maybe these folks are trying with larger trees.

Mine is finally getting to the point of needing to be replaced, but that's probably more because I have a tendency to leave it outside for awhile every year in the winter weather after taking down the tree out of good ole fashioned laziness. I'll be watching for a sale after Christmas on the same stand this year and if I don't find one, I will pay full price next year - I can't imagine putting up a tree with any other stand :thumbsup2

There is also the swivel straight: http://www.target.com/p/swivel-stra...pid=14715677&gclid=CKL6_IXVusICFYhafgod0EMACg. I don't have this one, but it seems similar. It doesn't hold quite as large a tree trunk as the Pivot Point though according to the directions.
