Anyone have the Samsung Blu-Ray player? (w/internet & BD live)

I'm hoping to find someone else with the same Blu-Ray player. We were gifted the Samsung one (model C5500C or something?) and we don't know anyone else with a Blu-Ray player, let alone this one, so don't have anything to compare to.

Anyway...we've had it for a few months now and are starting to question whether it's working correctly, but because this is our first experience with Blu-Ray we really don't have a clue as to what's normal. I guess we assumed it would be faster and more efficient than a DVD player (for one) but it doesn't seem to be. But it seems to take a long time- initial loading, from start-up screen to other screens to menu, etc...that kind of thing. Is that just normal for Blu-Ray's? It also goes to the "searching for signal" in between a lot of the different screens from the time the disc loads until it gets to the disc menu. Sometimes it also sounds kind of loud (again I have nothing to compare to, and our old DVD player wasn't quiet I guess, but I might have had too high of expectations for Blu-Ray?) and sometimes sort of does that dull "clunk" noise over and over again like it's trying to figure out what to do with the disc. It's always been like this (again, so we've always figured it was normal), and all of our discs are new (as in, within the last 3ish months). The internet works decent on it, the disc playing is actually worse off. We had a cheapo HDMI cable at first but got a good expensive one a couple of weeks ago to see if it made a difference and it didn't. Today we "reset" the player (by holding the stop button) to see if that would make a difference but it didn't.

The one very obvious issue we have that is clearly a PROBLEM is that now it will not play our new "How To Train Your Dragon" disc...it played it the first 20ish times (my kids like the show LOL) but now it loads (shows the black screen with that little dragon circle inside) it but never plays it. Even after resetting it today.

My MIL got it for us from Costco, but she doesn't have a receipt. Would it still be worth trying to exchange it there if it's just not working well? We still want one, just one that actually works well. But will they let us do that w/o the receipt? (we're members as well) Or do we need to go through Samsung?
 
Oh yeah if your MIL is handy (same town as you) please go w/ her to return it at Costco and buy another one. They will look up her purchase via her Costco account # and find all the info they need to return it. The only bummer might be if she bought it on coupon. They may or may not honor the coupon but hopefully not an issue. If you live far from MIL, get her Costco account # and try to return it yourself, and have them do the lookup. Either way should work fine. Good luck!
