anyone have the new Nook tablet or Kindle Fire

I know the diff specs and supposed strengths of each but wondered what the user experience is. I want to go with the Fire but the Nook Tablet appears to be the better overall product. I really doubt I would ever fill 6G, but if I do, I am not a fan of the "cloud" idea. I don't know if the RAM diff would really matter on a product like this. There is some feedback that video streaming is not optimum with the Fire - is this something that could improve with software updates? Anything you are noticing with your choice - do you wish you had gotten the other?

Picked up dd14s tablet last Tuesday, they shipped early. Since she was with me wen I received the call she knew she was getting it. She's been glued to it since then, I went ahead and let her have it since we leave for WDW next Friday and it'll free up her iPad for her sister. It's awesome. So far what impressed me was the magazine section, there are magazines available for download that I cannot get on my iPad. Plus, if you have a print subscription you do the 14 day free trial then you can get your monthly magazine as a free download on the nook. So much easier on the trip than carrying 20 magazines! I may put mine on there too!

DH just got the fire and has been playing around with it. He likes it but isn't happy about it only being for wi-fi. The kids have been watching movies on it and seem to enjoy that part. So I guess the streaming isn't an issue on ours? I haven't sat down to see what it looks like.

I have the Kindle Fire. I'm not interested in the nook Tablet because the Barnes and Noble app content is so sparse and what is there costs more than other stores. I have the older nook Color and put it through all the various jailbreaking methods to get access to more apps etc but I've gotten really tired of messing with it.

The Fire 8GB limitation is a headache, no doubt about that. You use it up really quick if you want to put videos on there. I've streamed several Amazon Prime movies and then also played a couple of my own DVD rips. I've encountered no performance issues at all. I've even put the nook reading app and several things from the Google Marketplace on the Fire. There's no need to jailbreak it or anything, they just install right on.

Otherwise, I think it is the perfect 7" device.

I'm not tech savvy really, but I want to get the most out of the Kindle and I don't usually have time to read entire books much. Thanks for any info.

Most magazines that have digital editions offer a free 14 day trial via Amazon or Barnes and Noble. You just sign up for the 14 day trial and then either cancel it (you can do that online, you don't have to call) or keep it, it isn't related to whether or not you also have a print subscription. In my experience the online rates are usually much higher than the print rates - mostly because there are always so many deals on magazine subscriptions.

My husband surprised me this week with a nook tablet. I am not a techie, so I probably can't help you out too much. I have really only played angry birds on it because I can't get it out of my husband's (the techie nerd) hands. I know we are still waiting on someone to figure out how to root (is that the right term) so we can use other apps on it. A big reason why he got it now is so he can put all our movies and stuff on it for our WDW trip in 18 days!!!!!!!


Anyway, I can let you know better how I like it when my husband gets it all set up.

Don't know about the Kindle, I have the old 2nd gen one of those (which I still love). All I'm saying is that I saw some magazines that I subscribe to on the Nook magazine site, they stated that if you have an existing subscription there is no additional charge for the Nook subscription. Two examples are Lucky and Teen Vogue, neither of which is available on iTunes.

Appreciate this but we get ours through a reception room site for doctors, I read then send in with hubby. The electronic subscription is a bonus for me as we already get a discounted rate.

I don't have any experience with the Nook tablet (and not a lot yet with my new Kindle Fire ), but I really, really love my new Fire. Is it perfect? No. I'll be purchasing a pen because the keyboard is a little clumsy - as the review said, definitely not going to be doing long emails on it. I do like how well it browses the internet though - very easy to use for somebody like me.

My daughter waited to look at mine before deciding whether to get one for herself and decided against it. She said the backlit screen will bother her eyes (we picked up the Kindle 3G w/keyboard and special offers for $89 for her at Best Buy yesterday).

I'm pleased with mine though.

Thank you for the info about the magazines. I don't think I will be paying for both. I'm sure they won't let me do the free trial every month for all of the magazines I have. Maybe I'll do that if I'm going on a trip. Of course, I have to save up for the Kindle first....LOL.
