I took my bandaid off Sat. about 45 minutes after my blood test and he big red welts where the adhesive was. They didn't go away until yesterday. I did have a horrible reaction once to surgical tape, but never to bandaids before.
I'm very allergic to Band-aids, but not surgical tape, I'm also highly allergic to most waxes used to remove hair (I think they must be the same stuff!) so have to use sugaring.
You're not alone! I have the same reaction. Whenever I use a band-aid for something..doesn't matter if it's a namebrand or the cheapo dollar store kind..I have the same problem. I have big red places on me where the adhesive was for at least a day or two afterwards.
It doesn't matter if it's a latex bandage (which I don't use often, because I'm allergic to latex), non-latex or cloth. I get the same reaction from all of them.
I'm also very alergic to surgical tape and the adhesive they use to put monitors on during surgery. I get raised red areas that match wherever the adhesive is placed. They can be painful and itchy. I think the surgical adhesive is made by 3M. I didn't know others also had a reaction to this stuff.
Yep, I sure do. Last week where the band-aid was looked so much worse than the puncture. I wasn't looking when she put it on and had forgotten to ask her not to use one.
Is your skin discolored for a while after? Not red but a brownish pigment? Mine only does that if the adhesive is on my belly. Was rather interesting after my gallbladder surgery.
Does anyone know if nurses, etc who take blood are offended if you ask to NOT have a band-aid. I might be donating blood on Saturday at our town health fair and I don't want to upset whoever is taking my blood.
Well..not more than I have to anyway. They always seem annoyed when I ask them for a butterfly needle because I have teenyweeny veins. If you attempt to use a regular needle on me, it's like trying to shove a PVC pipe into a hole the size of a drinking straw.
my sis is allergic to bandaids and everything that has laytex in them. She buys laytex free bandaids and they work fine.
By the way, if you ever need a bandaid in Animal Kingdom, they have laytex free bandaids at the first aid station. I assume the other parks do too but I know about AK for sure.
TOV I have never seen them get offended. If you are donating blood they'll use the colorful crinkly stuff anyway so you won't have to deal with a band-aid at all. I have to ask for the butterfly too.
Count me and my youngest dd in as well. I'm allergic to all adhesives. I had surgery and while the scar looked great, the area completely surrounding it was blistered from the adhesives! The only tape that I can use for small periods at a time is Micropore.
Well, I see I'm not alone!
I found out about surgical tape when I had a laparoscopy. When I took off my bandage i had this one hole that was oozing and disgusting. Went to dr. thinking my incision was infected. He said "Well, it's definitely infected, but I didn't cut you there." It was where the surgical tape had been!
