Anyone have packing tips or a good packing list for DLR?

Great thread, I am loving the responses and getting tons of extra ideas, thanks!!

We use soapopular in mini spray bottles - the stuff they sold in the resort seemed like a good value but you had to push down for a lot of squirts onto one hand for a good dose. The soapopular, available for Canadians at www.well.ca offers free shipping and you can buy the larger refill bottles and refill the mini spray bottles that you can take into the park. Those spray bottles pack a wollop of sanitizer with eaxh squirt, and it doesn't dry out the hands as it is alcohol free. Yes, we honestly do sanitize after every ride. We saw the Buzz Light year Astroblasters light guns one evening and knew that the sanitization process was minimal. :sad2: I have heard they sanitize nightly, but you can see how many little and big grimy fingers hold the machine. I beg you all to look at the filth and grime on those, and realize that on every single lapbar, every seat belt you do up, the same filth and grime is on there. Yes, I'm a germ freak. :) At home, we use soap and water on a regular basis, and make sure to wash our hands well in DL at every bathroom stop.

The idea of packing a day's outfit seemed kind of silly at first - until I remember rummaging through 2 entire suitcases just to find DD's socks!!! We don't unpack out of our suitcase - not for laziness, for more germ reasons.

I will definitely pack each child's day's outfit in a large plastic baggie. Also - for teens -pre-teens - who could wear the same thing day in and out, as we later saw in some photos.... :headache: :sad2: The baggie trick will work perfectly. Thanks for posting that!! :)

Yes, meds and more meds!! we bring everything along with us - tums, peptobismal, tylenol, gravol, advil, stool softener, migraine meds, other prescription meds, you name it, lol. Sudafed, and more sudafed, for plane rides.

If I can just stop DH from packing too many clothes - for a one week trip I think he brought 5 pairs of shorts and a couple pairs of pants. He did say maybe he packed too much so things should be better for the next trip.

Chrissiecutie is right!!! Make sure to pack clothing for all persons in each suitcase - should one go missing, you could make do with one. Also - bring swimsuits in carry-ons if you can. (For those who are flying.) Yes, I will definitely pull down the top layer of bedding. It always grosses me out, too. My 'binder' is my passport holder and I have the same items in it. It really does make you feel super organized... until you think you lost the folder, lol!!

NewbieMouse, I didn't know that Coffee Crisp is desirable to USA residents but I can see why it is!! It's kind of like a Kit Kat but more layers, and a great coffee type light fudge kind of filling in the middle. More like icing, than fudge, kind of what you'd find inside of a layered icing strawberry cookie. I'l bring some along with me!

Nannyz, desitin for chafing is a good one.... with so much walking, inner thighs can rub together too much and desitin can be great. We like sudocreme, it's as thick but not as stinky as desitin, but it is similar in consistency. Oh wait, it's penaten that really stinks, isn't it??

Oooh, ooooh!! I forgot to add this!! Once you empty your camera's memory card, as chrissiecuite said, you should take a photo of every single item in your suitcase (IF flying) and save it on that camera's memory card- should a suitcase go missing, you have a quick and easy list of items that were in that bag.:) I waste time doing that every time, and have never yet lost luggage, knock on wood!! :rotfl:

Yes, Nannyz is so right, ID ON EVERYTHING!!!

Keep the great ideas coming, everyone! Thanks!

The best packing tip I've learned over the last decade+ of Disneyland trips, is to pack each kid's daily outfit in a gallon sized Ziploc bag. I put the outfit, socks, underwear, and a label on the outside saying who's outfit it is, and what day it is for (ie: "Emily wears this on Thursday").

This little tip takes extra time while packing, but saves our family of 6 so much time when getting ready in the mornings (we're always rushing to get to the gates early). This way, any older kids who can read can get their own clothes for the day, and younger kids' clothes can be easily found. Also, put hair ties or clips into each day's bag as well. Cuts our morning prep time in half.

This is a fantastic idea!!

For your camera, on a piece of paper write out your name and phone number. That way if it gets lost and someone is honest enough to want to return it, they have a way to find you!

Just another quick little tip I read on here and I plan on doing! There was an amazing DIS'er that went through quite bit to find a family missing their SD card :)

Foaming soap pump for hotel room--I just keep an empty with my travel supplies, take a sample size antibac soap (screw top so no leaks) then fill the pump with the soap & water when we arrive: no more hotel barsoap sliding into the sink!

Children's Benadryl--the kids like to play with the hotel soap in the bathtubs--DS got a reaction and started itching like crazy; DH paid $12+ at the gift shop for Benadryl. Staple first aid med now.

Wrist strap wallet/purse. I rubberband constant-use cards (AP, Visa, DL) separately from emergency/may use cards (ATM, insurance), then add cash, lipgloss, & a few shiny pennies :)

We're out of infant/potty training now but used to put disposable changing pads down on the strollers--when there's an accident you just toss the pad & put down a new one.

I'm another ziploc fan--ziplocs for extra kids outfits go with us in the backpack--faster for security to flip through without making a jumble of your clothes and if they need a change you have a bag to put the soiled clothes into.

Travel coffeepot--I do not even want to imagine how or with what the hotel coffee pots are cleaned and I do imagine that people refill the coffeepot with water from cups they already drank from. $15 investment to save my sanity--plus we get to drink coffee we like.

:headache: Blech!!! That is something I had not even thought about and I am a self-professed complete germ freak. Luckily we stay at Hojo's where they have disposable cups for their Keurig. :)

(I wonder what else you know about germs that I don't know.) :worship:

I use my trusty label maker and put my phone# right on my digital camera and video camera.:thumbsup2

I also make a sign for our stroller with our last name and phone#.

We're 2 months out from our next trip, but I love to plan ahead and "invented" a new packing strategy yesterday. First, I took stock of all the kids clothes and made sure that almost every shirt and pair of shorts went with all other shirts/shorts. This took a while to coordinate, but it sure cut down on the number of items. Next, I laid out all the shorts on the floor and took a picture with my Iphone and then did the same with the shirts and all other items. Now I have a visual digital record to refer to. On packing day, I can send my kids and husband to their respective closets for a treasure hunt of the items on screen. Packing day is always chaos here, no matter how organized I seem to be, so I'm hoping that this strategy keeps the kids occupied and involved in a helpful and controlled way. Also, I think it will save me from unnecessary purchases as I try to remember if we have a blue shirt to go with those plaid shorts. All I need to do is look on my trusty camera roll of my Iphone.

This is a fantastic idea!!

I wish I could take credit for it! I can't, though...I think I actually got the tip here on the boards, a few years ago.

One of the things I love best about this trick, is that it means I can get my husband to *effectively* help while getting the kids ready for the parks! Before I'd be like, "Can you get Jake's blue cargo shorts and orange tank top?", and of course, he'd rummage and never find them, or never find socks, or underwear, etc. Now, I can just say, "Can you grab that bag that says 'Jake wears this on Thursday', and put those on him please?"...and voila!...one properly dressed kid in under 3 minutes!

I wouldn't have found the tip without you!! There are just too many threads full of awesome information and not enough time to go through them all.

This is our first big trip as a family, my husband and I just got married in August and before that we stayed on the island and just went camping. For us camping consists of lazy, sweat pant filled days :cool1: so packing is a little easier. This trip is going to be a whole nother ball game, thank god I have this site and all you lovely DISers!! :goodvibes

Can I threadjack for just one tiny second?

Those of you who talk about pulling back the bedding (the thought of hotel germs grosses me OUT!)...do you just pull back the spread and blanket and then Lysol the sheets and pillows?

I already spray doorknobs, TV remotes, etc., but I really, REALLY thought that hotel bedding was always freshly laundered upon a new guest's arrival! GROSS!
