Anyone have luck with kids at the later seating?

We had late seating last year. Our DS (10 at the time) did not have any trouble. She actually went back to Oceaneers Lab after dinner.

We went 2 years ago this coming Thanksgiving with our 3 year old. AMEX confirmed we had early seating, got onboard to be told we had late seating. Was not good at all for the daughter. The only good thing was that you got to go to the early show - which the kids shouldn't miss. If we did have early seating, then she would have been sleeping during the show.

But, there are plenty of things for the kids to eat onboard outside of the meal. They can easily pick up hot dog/burger/pizza type stuff out by the pool at 4PM or 5PM, go to the show, and then to the kids club while you go to dinner.

We cruised in March 2002 with our three kids, DS-13, DD-10, and DD-3. We had late seating and none of our children had a problem with it. We do not normally go to bed early so it did not affect them.

My DD5 & I had late seating. It worked out fine. We were able to see the early shows. After dinner we would go to the deck party for a little while & then lay in bed & watch a movie. The first night she was hungry about 5:30 so I ordered her something from room service. Having the late seating also gave us time to shower & get ready for dinner. I requested it on our next cruise & my 3yr old will be with us this time. They go to bed early at home but not on vacation! there is too much to do for sleep! Kidding!

If they are little & get tired , let them take an afternoon nap.
Have fun!

We always go with early seating, because my active nine year old is not able to enjoy staying awake during the late seating. He is so tired once we eat, that i can count on him being down for the count within a half an hour or so of dinner. I sure wish that we could do late seating again, but am holding off until he gets a little older. late seating just doesn't work out for us.

We loved late seating with DS12&12 &8. We eat late usually so this was only a little later and we were on vacation. The 12yo's did leave dinner early a couple of nights to go to a teen activity.
We would not have been ready to go to early seating and did miss shows a couple of nights (Another reason to go back LOL) because we had just gotten back from sightseeing.

I plan on doing late seating because the early dining is just too early for us. Plus we are used to central time and that makes it even an hour earlier for our internal clocks. My DS will be 6 at the time and if he wants to eat earlier, we will get room service or go to topsiders and then he can go to the club while we eat.

Being from the West coast, we've always requested the late seating. On our last trip, DS was 3 and DD was 1. Neither had any problem with it. In fact, it's the only way that we could do things on shore and still have time left over for kids to nap after we get back.
