Anyone have left handed kids?

DS18 - I knew as soon as he started holding onto things that he was a lefty. He would use both hands as toddlers do, but definitely favored his left.

DS7 - I'm still not sure about. He uses both hands. He writes and eats w/ his right hand, but throws a ball w/ his left. He is just starting t-ball this next week. DH has been practicing w/ him. DS is a natural switch hitter.

DD is a lefty. She even sucked her left thumb and when you held her as a baby would rub your hair with her left hand no matter how she was turned. I always wanted to be left handed as a child and I think it is so cool that she is a lefty. I told her when she was the only left in preschool that I always wanted a baby that was left handed and she feels very special that she is. She tells me"you wanted a left handed baby and you got your wish" it is a special connection for us.

We have kind of the opposite situation...both my DH and I are lefty's and DS turned out to be a righty. Up until he was almost 4 or so we kept going back and forth on which hand he would pick as his preference, he would go through phases of using one or the other. Once he was closer to 4 his true righty self came out and he would switch silverware, writing tools, etc. to his right hand even if offered on his left side (I found it REALLY hard not to set him up "lefty" since I was so used to being that way myself!).

That said, he does use his left hand probably a bit more than the "usual" righty since the poor thing was brought up with lefty's who always set him up the "wrong way" for things! :teeth: For example he mouses with his left hand anytime he's using the computer at home since that's the way we have it set up for us. At school he switches to the right.

Our youngest DD is a lefty - has been since I can remember - reaching for things with her left, coloring with crayon in her left, threw a ball with her left..

Her daddy is a lefty, so is his mother - so he is lots of help -- but was a little sad that she is left handed - said "It can be tough growing up left in a right handed world" but I always wanted to be a lefty growning up -- so I LOVE that she is...

Cute little story - we were at a carnival (school type one) that had a putt putt game and DD was having a little trouble with the club -- this real sweet teen age boy tried to help her and with his help they totally missed the cup - all three times -- he said "Sorry about that... you'll do better next time." She said - "Yeah - if you don't help me I will - I am a lefty - don't ya know! And I golf with my dad just fine"

I'm a lefty and so is my little sister. Both of our parents are right-handed.
I've always been left-handed. My parents noticed that I pretty much only used my left hand when I was very little. They said that they could have cut off my right hand and I would have been just fine. I once said that my right hand was for holding stuffed animals.
They love to tell the story of me trying to work a jack-in-the-box. I'd have to turn it around to crank it with my left hand and then hurry to turn it around so I could see the jack pop up. It would always pop up when I had it half way turned.
My grandfather thought that he would turn me to become right handed. He'd give me a quarter to hold while I ate. He'd place it in my left hand, so I'd be forced to eat with my right hand. Well, I showed him and put the quarter in my right hand and then ate! He tried that several times.
