Anyone have experience with strep?

My dd's been running fevers since last tuesday. On friday, she had a positive strep test, and was put on amoxicillan. It's not working. We go back to the doc tomorrow, and I'd love to know what antibiotic is more effective at knocking this stuff out, so I can express a preference. When I got up to check her temp a little while ago, it was 105 degrees!!! Motrin works well on the fever, but this is getting a bit ridiculous.

Clutter, with a fever that high you should call your doctor now or go to the ER. That is too high. Keep her dressed very lightly and give her cold fluids to drink.

Strep is receptive to many antibiotics usually. Unfortunately different strains of germs develop resistance to medications. It probably will depend on what is usual in your area.

I really would suggest talking to the doctor now.

Ditto RNmom...a fever that high can be dangerous. My rule of thumb, if I find that my child has a high fever(102 and higher) and I cannot get it to come down in 15 minutes- 1/2 hour (cold fluids, lukewarm bath, ibuprofen)...off to the ER. I use the smaller time frame the higher the temp. You didn't mention her age? I don't wnat to freak you out but there is a point where they just NEED to be seen. I think 105F is that time.

I would also want to make sure she isn't becoming dehydrated, common with such high/prolonged fevers.

Another call your doctor now vote. DS has taken Augmentin
in the past with a tough case of strep. It tears up the intestines and stomach though. I immediately administer acidopholus with it. Also Zythromax is strong.
How old is she? I bolster DS's immune system with vitamins,
liquids and liquid echinacea(the non alcohol type) when he's
sick.

Strep is nothing to mess around with! Take her in to Dr. NOW! If not responding or treated it can cause damage. When DS had trouble licking strep they had to use a strong antibiotic I had never heard of, but it worked. He had it so often though, and huge tonsils so he finally had them removed to lick it for good. Good luck, and let us hear how it goes.
(PS-usually my kids respond to an antibiotic for strep within 24 hours, marked improvement after 1st dose!)

As a person who gets high fevers normally ( and I'm talking 103 -104 easy and normally ) get to the doctor NOW!
If the doctor will not take you in or call in another prescription , go to the ER, but don't wait...strep is not something to play with.
Also and until you see a doctor, alternate motrin and tylenol every four hours , what I mean is give her motrin once and then four hours later give her tylenol. That's what I am told to do with my kids all the time for high fevers aside from the tepid baths.
My kids both get high fevers all the time, they got that from me.

Well, I didn't run her to the dr last night.... only because the motrin brought her down IMMEDIATELY. She was down to 102 in about 10 minutes, an hour later she was cool to touch. Believe me, if it hadn't gone down, we'd be at the ER!

We're leaving for the doctor in a few minutes. Tell me... to pediatric nurses have to take special training in being contradictory to parents??? I'm ready to chew into my dr's staff this morning, probably due to the lack of sleep!

Strep sucks so bad. It hurts to even drink freezing cold liquids. The doctor gave me penicillin which helped me get better pretty quickly.
