Hi all... Fiance lost his wallet/ID/SSC (yes, I know he should not have carried it with him) and cancelled everything, but he is considering registering with a company to give him fraud protection. (Not sure if they have a different name). Does anyone have first hand experience with any of these? I don't even know which ones/how many there are. I hope this is in the right forum.

Thank you!!

I use ProtectMyId. Works fine. They just e-mail you when ever someone tries to take out a credit card using your social security number. I got it free, paid for some company that got hacked.

After Anthem Blue Cross got hacked, we were offered and signed up for free protection. Don't recall the name. I'm glad we did because husband's co-worker had her identity stolen and it's been a lot of work and hassle trying to get everything straightened out. Lifelock is one, Identity Guard....there are many. Each with a different price point/monthly fee.

No experience at all with paying for protection....
But, before you go and sign-up with some "free-standing" company, you might consider asking your current insurance company (homeowners, auto, etal) about how much such coverage would cost through their company. Pretty much all of the big name national insurance companies offer such protection nowadays.

My previous employer accidentally threw out a box containing everyone's personal information, and they purchased fraud protection for all current and past employees. The box must be buried at the dump because nobody had any fraud attempts for the year the coverage lasted.
A former co-worker at my current job was a victim of identity theft, and it took her forever to sort everything out. Once it was sorted out, she looked at fraud protection and in her opinion, it didn't offer anything that would have caught the ID theft any sooner, or made straightening it out any easier.

Go to All-Clear ID. They list a lot of companies that were Hacked (Home Depot, Albertson, Blue Cross, etc.) If you were a customer you get free service. I did it with Home Depot that expires at the end of the year then I will jump in on the Blue Cross since I had it in the past. It's free and does the same as the ones you pay.
