Are you involved with their financial decisions?
At what age or what circumstances would cause you to get involved?

My mom is 78; my dad passed away four years ago. I can sign checks on her checking account and access all her financial matters if it becomes necessary. She is independent, but we are prepared just in case. We also just bought a five bedroom home with a bedroom and bath downstairs for her when her vision becomes more impared and she can't be independent.

she is very active and lives in her own place...but in our apartment house...she does her own banking and checking accounts...she just gave up driving last year...My mother in law is 86 and still lives on her own....she does her own bills and banking and also drives her own vehicle still....I keep my eyes and ears open for any signs that we would have to do this.. I think that is what you should do....each person and each medical condition is different....70's are still very young people....Hope that your decision and your parents are healthy for more years to come

My mom is 79, Dad just passed away last year. She gets along great. She rides her stationary bike every day.:D She scares me when she drives though. Glad she only drives to church, usually goes to the store with my sister.
