We cannot get DSL where we live. An aircard for my PC likely will not work here because my cell phone barely does. Our cable is expensive internet. I have considered going back to dial-up, but I cannot remember just how slow it is.
Anyone out there still use dial-up internet???

You'll get an answer from the dial up users in about 15 minutes because that's how long it takes to load a page! :rotfl: Seriously though, we had dial up for awhile when our satellite internet was not working and it was terrible. I'd almost rather travel into the library and use their internet than have dial up! :headache:

FUNNY!!! I don't think I could go back!! Thanks for the reminder.

The last time I use dial up was back in 2004 when my parents still had it at their house. For some reason the dial up they had wasn't really slow pages usually took two minutes at most to load.

what is fast dial-up?? What is DSL?? We went from dial-up to cable.

Maybe if I had dial-up at home I would get more done around the house. LOL

A while back someone posted a thread complaining about, "how everyone assumes everyone has the internet". One of the mods for the board posted the %'s for the board, and there were alot more than I thought maybe 10% ( I really can't remember) but definitely alot of people are still using dial-ip.

I have dial up. Guess I am just used to it. Sometimes it seems slow and sometimes not.
The DIS is the slowest
Can't watch youtube or videos.
No cell service here either.

I have "emergency" dial-up on my travel laptop My ISP has some "800" numbers and a few local ones for use when traveling, if a wireless or other high speed connect is un-available.

I used it...ONCE! (hotel charge was high)

the next day I used the hotel high speed.

I

suppose

dial-up

is

better

than

nothinnnnnnnnng

but I don't ever want to have to go back to it.

I guess if you wanted to use dial-up, the first thing I would do is disable signatures to get the DIS to load faster.

Cable or DSL for the last 6 years at least...

what about satelite internet? It is probably cheapest bundled with a TV package though.

Dial up user here. I'd RATHER have something faster but we just can't justify the cost right now. Someday though.

The way I look at it right now is at least dial up is better than nothing! LOL

I have signatures enabled....and a lot of my own ;)......doesn't really take that long.
When I go to DS's or our house in AZ....both have high speed, it is nice, but sometimes it really doesn't seem any faster...except the watching movies thing.

:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1: I had satelite through Direcway/Hughes for several years. Yes, it was a "little" faster than dial up but I had SOOOOOO many problems. Most days it just wouldn't work. I was talked into upgrading (of course at a cost) and that was "supposed" to fix my problems.. Yeah, sure.
Every time I called I would get someone who spoke some other language. It was always an exercise in frustration. I am SOOOOO happy I finally was able to get DSL.

I had dial up until last month. Honestly except for downloads I don't notice that much of a difference. I can download a song from iTunes now in under a minute instead of 15 minutes. Most pages load about the same

My sister has Netzero dial-up since the DSL is still one street away - this has gone on for the last yr now. Tough to think that in a large city they have not connected every street yet. She is happy with it since she does not use the internet except in the evening.

My Mom stayed with us this past winter and bought her first computer at the age of 79! We have broadband but she would never pay that much for internet connection when she went home. I hooked her into our broadband for one month so she could get a good feel for it and then I ordered dial up for one month so she could see the difference. I was certain it would be slow as molasses and was shocked that there was actually very little difference. Getting connected took a little time but going from website to website was quick. The only thing that stunk was any type of video connection. I had introduced her to some of the old shows on You Tube and they just didn't work with dial up. When she went back up north, she compromised and got the cheapest DSL connection. That seems to be working fine for her.

OP, my situation was similar to yours. I couldn't get DSL, and my cell phone signal is not great at my house.

I used to have dial-up, and it was very slow (and very frustrating). I also had an aircard for my laptop (since I traveled frequently on business), but it didn't work well at my house.

We got Wild Blue through Directv, and it's been great. I can tell very little difference in it and my DSL at work. Very rarely do I have weather problems (but almost never). I definitely recommend it.

My dad was still using dialup until early this year. So glad he finally got DSL.

Dialup was so slow that I couldn't even stand to load 1 page on the web while we were there. I would just go without internet or email the whole time we visited. I don't know how he lived with it for so long. He saw how fast our DSL was when he visits.

Funniest thing is he's been going crazy watching videos on youtube and listenting to music since he could never do that before. Now everything he sends us is a video to watch instead of a joke to read. lol

I could never go back.
