I have to take Mickey in on Thursday for the vet to clean his teeth. They told me that they have to put him under to do it and then I can pick him up later in the afternoon.

Anyone have to have this done for their cat?

Yes, one of my cats has had her teeth cleaned several times without any problems.

Thanks, Mimi! He had a bad reaction to one of his shots a few months ago and so now I'm a little worried about the anesthesia. I know they'll look out for him though.

Two of my cats have had this procedure. I highly recommend it. This will help to prevent illnesses down the road.

By the way, both cats did just fine.

That is standard procedure for a teeth cleaning, it is a light anesthesia, similar to what you and I would have were we to have our wisdom teeth pulled which is why you are able to pick them up later in the day. If it was a more powerful anesthesia they would keep him over night for observation.
